Thanks, that's pretty bad.
That's was a pissy move, but the dude did just haul in a atop 10 recruiting class and took AU to the finals for the first time in a long while.

Yes. He has also kicked players off the team without them violating rules

Were the players any good? I remember a couple of seniors leaving when he first came to AU.

It sounds like his lawyer is trying to up the money he can possibly get - form 4 years to "lifetime."

See how it it followed by: " If serious offers of severance are not soon forthcoming, we will be fighting this matter in some forum, quite visibly"

Dude is just doing what attorneys do - it is all about $$ now.

The lawyer brought up Jacobs giving Pearl a 2nd chance, but that is not a legal defense for Golloway

I hope he is also prepared to lose this argument in court unless he has a signed copy of that in writing.

I bet Golloway claims he was set up by an assistant and didn't know the pitchers were throwing illegal sessions.

That's what I thought was really crazy about an official statement.

Most Aubies are hoping Jay Jacobs fricked this up. Both seem to be disliked but Jacobs could frick up a butter sandwich

kicked off the team or cut them? LSU has cut several upperclassmen over the years. With the roster limitations being what they are now, it's just part of the game.

He cut them from the team. Which is par for the course when a new coach comes on board.

employment contracts like these generally have to have set durational terms. "for life" is going to be really hard for him to argue in court. you can have a valid contract that has an indefinite length, but those are generally only going to be valid in the context of services rendered that have an indefinite time period necessary to complete the work.

in baseball specifically, it's just par for the course in general. One player that specifically comes to mind is Trey Watkins at LSU. He didn't do anything wrong as a member of the team, he just wasn't good enough. The roster limits the NCAA imposed on college baseball (35) really hamstrings coaches. Watkins was a rising senior and was cut for simply not producing enough to keep him on the roster. Happens all the time

The lawyer states that Sunny's contract has 4 yrs left, then says there are good arguments that he actually has a lifetime contract.

IMO, Sunny is pissed that he was fired with cause apparently due to the pitching coach working with players when he wasn't supposed to which is an NCAA violation.

I'm sure Jacobs was sick of Sunny altogether and got rid of him at the first opportunity.

His contract automatically renewed annually, thus lifetime. Still did not say he could not be fired, Auburn could be on the hook for up to 1.25 million, but because this has become public, it is doubtful we will pay anywhere close to that.

we will eventually settle for some lesser amount to make this go away, but does not vindicate SG

Remember this, just another part of the puzzle.. TPOS.

Auburn coach Sunny Golloway, for whatever reason, decided he wanted the Auburn batting cages locked and not made available to Alabama. It is SEC policy that any such facilities available to the home team are also available to the visiting team. It had not been a problem in any previous series this season or in previous seasons.

That dispute, eventually resolved when the SEC office told Auburn officials to tell Golloway he had to make the cages available, resulted in a confrontation in which Golloway, in front of numerous witnesses, leveled a stream of loud profanity at Alabama assistant coaches and later at head coach Mitch Gaspard.

Those are facts verified by numerous people. When Golloway was asked about it after Auburn’s 14-4 loss to Alabama on Sunday, he refused to comment beyond "I know what happened."

IIRC, that was similar to what Sunny did at AU. The players were entering their senior years and just didn't produce to the new coaches level.

However, from rumors being thrown around, parents of players were wearing the athletic department down with complaints about a myriad of issues with Sunny. And the Oklahoma folks said he was a dick of the first order and were happy to see him leave.

What's with the rumors about him exceeding the practice hours, and lying to Jacobs about the pitching sesson?
