On college football live today they were discussing what place ND would come in the SEC. I don't think they have the talent/depth to compete in the SEC and it was exposed in the National Championship in 2012. I think they would be the 7-8th best team in the SEC. Thoughts?

If they lowered their academic requirements for athletes (is this even real?) and had inroads to southern HS talent, they would be a force.

Any good program can come in and be competitive in the SEC.
It's not like there's a magical algorithm that only a few schools in the conference know.

ND would go through the same issues that all teams experience: Some years they'd be brilliant; other years they'd struggle.

Moot point anyway. They'd never make such a move (and I rarely use the word never).

I dunno about never. I could see certain situations where they might do it.

The heads exploding from the Big 10 if they joined the SEC would be glorious.

never thought about it that way. As it stands right now after watching LSU destroy them in the 2006 Sugar Bowl and Bama crush them in the BCSNC, they can not compete with the upper tier SEC.

If they ever dumped independence, you think they'd opt for the SEC over the B1G? Or even ACC? I just don't see it.

But you're right--stranger things have happened ... which is why never rarely crosses my tongue.

But you did use the word "moot." Good job. Most, around here at least, would have used "mute" and been incorrect in doing so.

However, did you truly mean that the subject is seriously worth debating yet unlikely to reach a conclusion, therefore a waste of time, or were you trying to suggest the subject should just be quieted, silenced even, because it is too hypothetical to even discuss?

There is no reason why they wouldn't be successful once they recruited southern athletes. They have money, prestige, and a huge fanbase. The only difference between the SEC and the rest of the nation and the only reason we are so dominate is our recruiting. Give a premier blue blood program, like ND, access to the same players as UA, LSU, etc. they would be great to elite every year.

unless their leadership changes I absolutely see them taking the SEC over the Big 10. I think they are done talking with them about anything.

The only two conferences I see ever getting ND as an all sports member are the ACC and SEC.

They might consider a football only deal with the Big 12 but I highly doubt it.

Those great southern athletes who once upon a time were attracted to ND, are now staying home to play for UGA, USCe, FSU, LSU, UF, Bama, Texas etc... I read where ND is trying to schedule a home and home with UGA to try to make some inroads into southern recruiting. LSU and ND used to play each other all the time mainly because there are so many Catholics in Louisiana and for recruiting purposes. I'd rather a top Louisiana recruit stay home and play for LSU rather than go north and play for ND.

He never mentioned A&M. He just talked about good programs. Why did A&M spring to your mind?

We do have 700 wins, a winning percentage over 60, been to like 34/35 bowl games, have 18 conference championships, were one of the winningest programs of the 90s...I mean we aren't Alabama of anything but we are a respectable program

of course you do. So does every other fan from an SEC state. But ND in the SEC would be an easy sell for athletes. Besides location they offer something better than nearly every single school in our conference.
