Punishment of good players will not result in being removed from the team, because the team is "like a family" and you dont kick people out of the "family" when they make a mistake

When kids sign with us, they are assigned an old white "uncle" for suits and spending money, an old white grandfather with a dodge dealership, and a house for their mom to "watch" while they play here.

You do not kick them out, or they will talk about the family.

How is it arrogant if it's proven to be true so far?

Its proven Bama sends several busts to the NFL.

Its true, but it isn't something that needs or is polite to mention.

I think he was taking a shot at the media like the Alex Scarborough article saying that he needs to be more fierce in his punishment and let the players know he isn't playing around.

The problem with this is that there has been no real redemption for these young men. They've continued down the path they started. Sometimes it is necessary to get rid of the bad apple, but that doesn't necessarily help the bad apple to learn from his mistakes and change.

To publically validate his decisions each time he's kicked someone off the team... basically it says "I always fight for a kid if they show ANY sign of hope."

Why does he need to trash those kids for validation from the media? Really, he should be trying to help those kids. He recruited them after all.
He said he hates kicking them off the team, because they've shown to not be successful anywhere else, at other schools or in their life.

It doesn't help them or teach them anything if they get kicked off the team. He'd like to be able to retain them and give 'em a chance to be successful.

I think you're confused about the definition of the term "arrogant."

haha. good point... well, I didn't hear it as he said it. I suppose that would have helped me a lot.

To be fair, the only reason I disagreed is that there are a LOT of terms that Saban has earned. I'm not sure arrogant is really one of them. It's easy to assume he is if you base that off the body of his work.

I started to ask if this means Saban will never kick any player off the team in the future, but DJ Pettway being allowed to come back pretty much proves that.

If you allow a complete piece of shite like him back, who would you actually kick off? A murderer or rapist maybe

How can you possibly measure being "successful in life" when these kids are still young. Had he left the "in life" part out, I would have no problem with it.

He should have stuck with the idea that it doesn't teach anything. No need to say they never amounted to anything in life. It's just unnecessary.

It does if you help them find a landing spot where they have a chance to succeed.

Nah, I dig what you're saying. I agree it is worded poorly. Sometimes Saban is far too blunt. But I think his point is fair... which is basically saying the kids were not moldable and could not follow direction and it is reflected in their lives at this point. Anyway... i don't really care enough about this sorta thing to keep arguing semantics. I really do agree with you about it coming off the wrong way or it being rude or w/e. \m/

The little debbie question was the best part.

He got damn defensive about his little debbies.

It's called circular logic. He only kicks off bad players, so they are unsuccessful later in life.

Mathieu is the perfect example that negates everything Saban is trying to say. Great player, but he had to be kicked off the team to actually learn his lesson.

Wasn't the same thing said about the QB a few years back who was kicked off?

How has he turned out?

Its a flawed logic as it depends on the individual and if they learn from mistakes in life or disregard them and continue doing what they've always done.

It's hard for me to stomach taking back a thief. I can tolerate a pothead, a drinker, a loud mouth thug behavior. But I could never tolerate a thief.
