The offense lost those games not The Chief's D.

Tennessee's offense wasn't the reason that a twenty-something year old kid lit up The Chief that day in Birmingham.

I am just referencing the Chief's tenure in Baton Rouge.

I cant believe Tenn let him go. Bad call IMO. I am sure he is looking forward to matching wits with Lane Kiffin this season.

The only time I have seen a Chavis D look really bad vs Bama while at LSU was the second half of last years game. A defense that had been decimated with early departures to the NFL.

2009-played well enough to win, O couldn't cut it
2010-played well enough to win and did
2011-9-6 game we won(sick D!), and 1/9 is a little misleading. Our D did well enough to win the game at the start and got worn down for being on the field all game since it was our worst O performance in history when you look at the magnitude of that game
2012-Our D in that second half was so sick....two late drives on us during each half screwed us.
2013-1st half our D was solid, then got waxed in the second half.

Overall, pretty damn good job by the Chief while playing Bama. Blame the O for many of these losses.

Just my .02

Years of vastly inferior talent before his time in Baton Rouge

Chavis may be a good DC, but after listening to Vol fans for years talk about "third and Chavis", as well as personally witnessing the carnage unleashed by Applewhite, Jessica Parker Wilson, Terry Grant, and DJ Hall, I and a lot of other fans will never think of him as highly as most commentators. Wilson was 32-46-363-3TDs-0INTs, Hall had 185 yards on 13 catches, and Grant rushed for over 100. No Glen Coffee. No Antoine Caldwell. No Marlon Davis. Chavis couldn't exploit the loss of an All-American center, another starting OL, and a future 3rd round RB? Vol CBs inexlicably and routinely gave Hall and other WRs large cushions. Third and Chavis is very real.

Its not Kiffin Chavis needs to be worried about, rather the man that is 8-3 against him.

I would say the 2012 loss by LSU is as much on Chavis as anyone. Saban and Bamas offense knew they could exploit Chavis at the end of halves.

That was such a close game, easy to pin it on the final drive but LSU squandered a couple of scoring opportunities.

USCe almost did the same thing to us earlier that year.

True. But it wasnt coincidence that Bama scored TDs right before half and at the end of the game. LSUs dbs were giving so much cushion on those drives.

Has anyone mentioned that Chavis has given up 288 points to Saban coached teams, for an average of 26+ points per contest?

That 4 and inches was squarely on miles shoulders. The game was over if Mettenburger, Copeland, or Hill passed that FDL that was INCHES away. I don't blame that on Chavis. Cause Kevin Norwood was the GOAT vs. LSU. LSU could never stop Kevin Norwood in clutch moments.

Wow, didnt know that T. I guess its easy to look at individual games and blame it on the offense, but giving up an average of 26 a game puts it into a different perspective.

I'm sure if Chavis had it his way he would have been more aggressive with the offensive play calling against Saban's defenses. The difference has been Saban plays to win and the other HC's are too scared to take chances.

'07 should be Alabama 41 - Tennessee 17
'08 should be Alabama 29 - Tennessee 9

If you are talking about Saban,(while at Bama), vs Chavis. 2009 was his first season at LSU.

3rd and Chavis...

JPW threw a TD on 3rd and Goal from the 16...
Grant runs one in on 3rd and 5 from the 8...
Bama is 4/4 on 4th down conversions (2 by penalty)...
Tiffin hits 4/5 Field Goals...

It was nothing but a complete mental letdown on defense once the would get into 3rd and 4th down...That is on Chavis.

whatever makes all you guys sleep better at night....

yeah, you should not worry about Chavis at all as our D Coordinator. He has been turrrrible ever since he got here and has brought in crap talent..we have no chance!

I'm just stating the facts...The 2005 & 2008 losses were on the offense...2007...the defense just phoned it in on 3rd down.

He is a good coach, but in big games, he had a tendency to give up big plays on 3rd and 4th down. Maybe it was because he didn't have the talent to be aggressive and it cost him when he was at UT.

No need to be butt-hurt because someone is stating facts.
