Fine one human being who is entirely innocent of anything. I'm being wide-sweeping here, but it was just a way of saying "nobody's perfect."

Ok, for those who don't want to sign up for a (free) account, here are the undergraduate numbers copied and pasted. First, Ole Miss:

Student Body
Total Enrollment:14,159
% Female:53%
% Male:47%
% Out of State:32
%American Indian or
Alaskan Native:0.36%
Asian:1.49
%African-American:16.53
%Hispanic:1.92
%Caucasian:77.45
%Race/ Ethnicity Unknown:0.21
%International:2.08%

Now, LSU:
Student Body
Total Enrollment:23,012
% Female:50%
% Male:50%
% Out of State:17
% American Indian or
Alaskan Native:0.46
%Asian:3.32
%African-American:8.71
%Hispanic:3.4
%Caucasian:79.09
%Race/ Ethnicity Unknown:2.64
%International:1.74%

Look, dumbasses, I'm not trying to say anything about LSU in particular. I'm just asking the following question: if Ole Miss were the bigot school that most people love to think it is, then why does it have a relatively HIGH rate of minority enrollment? Do you not think the non-white students at Ole Miss enjoy going to school there? Do you not think they reached this decision under their own volition? Do you think they were swindled into applying to, gaining admittance to, and continuing to stay enrolled in Ole Miss?

Get a grip, y'all. Ole Miss is a pretty progressive place, despite the loud, annoying few who want Ole Miss to be some sort of a symbol of a revisionist notion of the "Old South." Get over yourselves and stop using Ole Miss as your personal nostalgia piece/self-esteem boosting whipping boy, whichever may be the case.

Miss is what percent black vis a vis Louisiana???? Seems like your enrollment should be 40% black to even come close to LSU per capita.

Interesting what the OM students said about the school...

quote:

Ole Miss is home to more than 12,000 undergraduates, a size that makes generalizations about the entire population difficult and necessarily imprecise. That said, students detect an undeniable presence of "students who are pretty wealthy and take pride in that." This group is personified by the "preppy girl or boy wearing expensive labels and going to school to follow in his or her mom or dad's footsteps. "Sums up one undergrad, "Ole Miss students are charming and very social; it is as if everyone has been raised attending cocktail parties and debutante balls forever. We are primarily conservative, white southerners who are unashamed of our Southern culture and heritage. Those who fit this mold love Ole Miss; [others] seem to view the Southern elitism as 'snobbery.'" This perceived snobbery may be at least a partial result of the fact that the school is "not very diverse."

More like Southern Myopia, you actually have to be "elite" to qualify as an "elite snob"

According to the 2010 Census, Mississippi is 37% black while Louisiana is 32% black. So Mississippi is 5% blacker than Louisiana, while Ole Miss is 8% blacker than LSU. So, yeah, your little attempt to derail my argument using demography kinda sorta shat all over your face.

It's according to what you consider "elite". There is no doubt that a majority of the oldest and wealthiest families in Mississippi send their kids to Ole Miss. (Unless something has suddenly changed, which I doubt)

being the oldest (meaning white) and wealthiest in Mississippi is like being the "newest" whore at the Bunny ranch, only used 1045 times,
