Well Les Miles isn't Catholic. And hasn't donated money to CTK, at least publicly.

For the record. The Christ the King student center is the old church and was converted to the student center when the new church was constructed.

Gene Stallings has a building named after him on the Alabama campus that has nothing to do with football or sports.

quote:

The Stallings family was honored as the Family of the Year by the Tuscaloosa Association of Retarded Citizens for their sponsorship of an annual charity golf tournament which raised money for the association. The family was honored once again for their generosity when the Rise program, located on Alabama’s campus, named its new building the Stallings Center.

We didn't name our Catholic student center after Les Miles though. But then again we don't shoot our family members because they're not mad enough about losses or yell roll tide while we frick our sisters so I guess it's just a cultural difference

You do realize that Mobile, AL was the first capital of French Louisiana? Tons of Catholics down here. It was Mobile businessmen who brought Mardi Gras to New Orleans.

Naming public buildings in after living people is allowed in Louisiana, but typically they have donated to construction of the building. Simply naming something in honor of a person without a donation, they'll wait until said person is deceased.

No it's not.

The old church was demolished for the new student center to be built.
quote:

A soon-to-be-built student center at St. Francis of Assisi University Parish will bear the family name of the University of Alabama's head football coach.

The 1974 church that once stood on the site was demolished in December. At 1 p.m. Feb. 1, St. Francis will break ground on the new Saban Catholic Student Center, which will be built where the former sanctuary once stood on Fifth Avenue.

The old church seated about 300. The new one more than doubles that with about 800.

The Mobile deanery of the Archdiocese accounts for well over 50% of Alabama's Catholic population...

Christ the King is on LSU's campus.

St. Francis is on Alabama's campus.

Keep up.

Being from North Alabama, the only white Catholics I've ever known were a good Polish family from Wisconsin and some Irishmen that somehow kept the faith after staying in Alabama for a long time. Otherwise, the only people you'd see in one were Hispanic.

I'm from around the Montgomery area and only knew one Catholic family until after I graduated from college. I now know a total of about 8 Catholic people.

Alabama is around 5% Catholic. Has the smallest proportion of Catholics of any state. And the overwhelming majority of them reside in Mobile & Baldwin Counties.

New Catholic student center to bear Coach Saban's name
Edited for clarity. LSU's Catholic Church is named Christ the King and guess what the student center is called? Christ the King student center. Sorry that y'all are fricking weird

ETA: I'm Catholic, and never once in my entire life have I seen a student center named after something other than the church it's connected to. That's thr point here. Seeing as how 99.9% of Alabama is Protestant I wouldn't really expect y'all to understand what I'm saying

So, Mr. Expert on all things Catholic...explain to us what Jesus might think to see his flock named after a sports team. "Catholic Tigers".

And who the frick are Newman Centers named after?

This guy?

Feeling pretty foolish right about now, aren't you?

I was covering in a hospital in Alabama and asked about a local Catholic church to attend on Sunday. Everyone's eyes got real big and they asked if they could ask me questions. Must have had an audience of 20 people bombing me with questions.

Ahhhh shite, we probably know a lot of the same folks.

Whenever I was in town to see my grandparents, I always had to go the damned Church of Christ.

Shula and Fran were Catholics too. Bama's last 3 coaches were Catholic. (Not sure about Price). He did believe in Destiny so he was probably spiritual.
