I'm just saying that that's not usually the case for Catholic churches. Football stadiums, yes. Educational facilities, yes. Basketball gymnasiums, yes. Catholic Churches or anything associated with them, no. Just my $.02, everyone carry on

Won't happen anytime soon with the attitude you've had in this thread. Maybe you should live up to your name and smoke a few bowls because it looks like those jimmies are moving around at around 100 mph right now

That's weird. I live in Mobile but spend a lot of time in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham and I've never hear of Saban barbecue sauce or seen pictures of Saban in local restaurants either. Sounds like you just made that up.

When someone donates towards the building of something, it is often named after the benefactor.

Loser.

I've only ever seen pictures of Saban (or Bear, Dye, etc.,) in BBQ restaurants within 50 miles of Tuscaloosa or Auburn.

Are you Catholic? It's not common at all, it's actually freakishly uncommon. And of course Alabama of all places would name the building after their football coach rather than just putting a plaque somewhere to show their appreciation like most churches do

It's actually not freakishly uncommon on a campus with a student body that is 50 percent OOS. St.Francis is very well attended.

And Im sure you wouldnt bat an eye if Les Miles name was attached to the LSU Catholic student center. Just another chance to demean Alabama and Saban over something trivial.

As someone who has actually been involved in major Capital Campaigns for a variety of Catholic schools, churches, and programs this is not unusual.

I've been to St. Francis in Tuscaloosa nearly every Sunday morning after the Bama/LSU game over the last 10 years. He and Terry are always there.

There is a huge difference in the cultures of worship regarding Alabama and Louisiana. Obviously in NOLA there is a large community of Catholics from the French and Spanish influence of the area. Also the Caribbean communities from hundreds of years ago. Alabama and Mississippi were once as anti-Catholic as you could get. But it is not that unusual to have a namesake of the student center to be named for a donor. It's like hospital wings added on that are built by private donors. Could be a charity hospital like St. Vincent or something along those lines.

Just so you know, this isn't helping promote the Saban-worship narrative of this thread.

Is the building (student center) considered a public building or belongs to the church diocese? I am thinking it belongs to the church diocese. Most public buildings, if owned by local, state or federal governments or entities are not allowed to be dedicated or named after an individual until that person has passed away.

I don't think that's true. I know of at least 2 buildings on campus that were named after living people (Shelby Hall and the Mal Moore building).

We didn't name our Catholic student center after Les Miles though. But then again we don't shoot our family members because they're not mad enough about losses or yell roll tide while we frick our sisters so I guess it's just a cultural difference

Richard Shelby has like 5 buildings named after him among the universities in the state.
