The new stadium was slated at 20 - 40 million when Cohen was still at UK. The big thing was putting in the corporate suites like you have in Box with all the grounds and perks. When they built the new one, Cliff Hagen was supposed to become the new softball stadium.

The biggest issue with UK is getting them to build multi level parking structures to save space and make shorter distances. Commonwealth has a large surface lot they use for students that should have gone to multi level years ago, but UK will not spend the money to save it long term.

That is about right, but I am sure those numbers are more.

Right now, improving the softball and soccer stadium and finishing the track is the importance...then baseball will get in the works.

I can tell you, if the city "F"'s around on Rupp Arena and not working with UK, then UK will build there own arena on campus and leave the city high and dry.

UK actually hosted a regional before, so it is not like this was new to UK.

Which is an even greater point in the "stadium not big enough" argument. We hosted in 2006 at Cliff Hagan.

Which was tied in as part of his contract before he left for State.

I can tell you this would be the worst thing UK could do on so many levels. Lexington needs more corporate headquarters if they are serious about new sports facilities.

If the NCAA gave any indication that UK's field was insufficient (and given Mike's comments I think they did just the opposite) then UK could've hosted at Applebee's Field (Whitaker Bank Park). It actually sits in Lexington not far from campus at all.

So would you just trade stadiums for the weekend with the Legends? Or would you try to squeeze in your games before theirs?

Why not increase prices on basketball tickets in order to fund the other ventures? I guess that could tie back to the lack of premium seating options in Rupp and why your looking into options with it to begin with...

Ole Miss is currently fundraising for a new basketball arena and expanding their football stadium to the tune of $150mil total, and their primary source of revenue is season ticket price increases across the board. I want to say they've made something like $40mil off football increases alone(money pledged anyway).

Fact is...you can privately fund a baseball stadium if your willing to take the time to raise the funds to do it. It's just a matter of making it a priority among your athletics department and administration, as well as among the fans. Baseball can and should be a revenue sport in the SEC. No way all the non-revenue stuff should be prioritized above it...

Basketball tickets are already stupid expensive. The average fan can't attend games as it is. That wouldn't go over well.

If you sell out Rupp every game, I don't see the issue? Isn't there incredible demand for UK tickets still?

If you want to seriously compete in other sports, you've got to use everything at your disposal to make it so. You've got a monster source of potential revenue that should be milked for all it's worth, IMO...

I don't think you understand. Not to mention, basketball doesn't make nearly as much money as you might think. Yes, it's Kentucky basketball, but it's still basketball and you have to think of the massive overhead that the basketball program already has.

Rupp basketball tickets are already expensive, but the bigger issue is the venue. Rupp has no corporate suites, and no major corporations in the area to buy them. Louisville and Cincinnati have the corporate headquarters, but less popular sports.

Football makes about 3 times the money basketball does and even then it is not enough to support numerous teams.

Kentucky got fricked, ucla is hosting, look at their park. The ncaa got it wrong despite whatever they are going to use as an excuse. Just like LSU last year, just like most every year for some SEC team.
