Man, people really need to work on reading comprehension. He never said "a lateral move". He said "a later position", as in DC to DC.

"I hope our guys have opportunities to go be head coaches more than leaving for lateral positions. But I think with success, hopefully we do have guys get opportunities to be head coaches."

A 7 page thread for something that isn't even true. Shocked.

In context he is still making the mistake of calling UF a lateral move from MSU. He's just lashing out. No biggie.

Well what do you want him to say? "Always glad to see our coaches leave Starkville and take more prestigious positions!" and insult his school?

Quote was taken way out of context and this thread is tard

Mullen before this season had a record of 36-28 at MSU.

Including this year, Mullen's record is 46-30 (6 years). Our record from 2003-2008 (6 year period before Mullen)was 23-48.

That's part of Mullen's personality, he's known to be a little tactless; I like that about him. Don't be surprised if Florida NEEDS to get rid of Collins in a couple of years. In fact, I highly doubt he's there past two.

If you'll pretend with me for a moment, I think I can explain why Florida fans would take offense to this.

If Geoff Collins were the DC at Southern Miss and left to become the DC at MSU, and their head coach called it a "lateral position", MSU fans would be in arms.

While Florida isn't the greatest of coaching destinations, MSU ranks very low. You guys have Saban and the SEC West to contend with. Plus your location, and facilities = equals not a very good job right now.

I'll agree with a lot of that, but our facilities are top notch. I think we've spent around $150M or so since Mullen has been here. Florida doesn't have an indoor practice facility - we do. Former players now in the NFL have stated that our football complex is as good as their respective NFL facilities.

Comparing USM vs. State and Florida vs. State is not even close to the same.

If we got a DC from say any power 5 school and their coach said "same position", I really wouldn't care.

Which is why he has never been considered for the UF job.

Okay then. Compare the number of HC jobs a coordinator from MSU has gotten. Now do the same at Florida, and keep telling yourself it's a lateral move.

And 22-26 in SEC games.
Which I understand at MSU is considered excellent.

What did he mean by later position? What does that even mean?

The only way this press conference could have gone worse is if dan mullen tried to walk out again.

Bonus " this just makes mullen look like a Jerk"

Once is an outlier twice is a trend.

What's really funny is all that shitty history yet Ole Miss is in Vandy and UK's elite company of never making it to Atlanta or winning 10 games in a regular season.

I don't think I said anything about it being a lateral move, one way or the other. I do think, however, that Florida will want Collins gone within two years. I think he's a good coach and a very good recruiter, I really do, but it's the setting and the stage where he doesn't shine as bright.

You sound chapped that Mississippi State is currently a better job than Florida.

Miss State has never been and will never be a better job than Florida. They may have had a better team, but they damn sure aren't the better job.
