This is all hilarious to me. Every one of the SEC schools offers some recruits gray shirts when the numbers get tight and kids and coaches get pissed about it. College football is a business plain and simple. It sucks for Virgil but he is a very good qb and had several offers from power 5 schools and he will be fine in the end. How many times do kids decommit at the last minute and have coaches scrambling? We didn't pull his scholarship. We asked him to gray shirt and go on scholly next January. It sucks for the kid but Mullen isn't the only one that does this. Get off your high horses Lawdy

It might be business as usual in the rest of the SEC, but here in Texas high school coaches see themselves as important gatekeepers to the state's most precious resource. Much like a group of women if you frick over one they will all hear what a jerk you are and your program will be shut out whenever they can.

quote:

This shite is a business...coach needs to get over it. No room for feelings.

Maybe that is the way it "should" be, but to these high school coaches it is personal. They WILL make sure EVERYONE knows what you did, as they are all a tight knit group.

quote:

Why did he put "coach" in quotation marks?

Because he obviously thinks that Mullen doesn't deserve to be called a coach. I don't think you southern boys know how much this hurt him. Think about if someone came along and said the Confederacy was a dumb idea, the Bible is made up and Ronald Reagan was an idiot. The level of anger you would get to wouldn't get close to this coach or any of his coaching buddies.

Sumlin asked one player to grayshirt, a lineman who tore his ACL a month before signing day. That lineman is now on the roster.

Not even remotely close.

Cowbell U is now effectively shut out of the state of Texas.

In reality no one cares but MSU and Gator fans. Let's face it. Even in the best season in MSU history you're nothing but an afterthought for most, if that.

For every kid with a scholarship pulled prior to signing day, a kid decommits from that same team with no warning. It goes both ways.

So if one ignorant kid makes a decision in his own interest that inconveniences you and your multimillion dollar salary, it's ok to hurt a completely different kid who only wants to help you. It all evens out? What exactly are the "both ways" that "it" goes?

Well ok, but if I have to come to Miss to do it we are meeting in a Ward's parking lot and not a Sonic so that way I can have my victory chili burger afterwards.

lol... if y'all had johnny this year, you would blow everyone out of the water. It would be complete domination.

Think about what a&m would have accomplished with even a mediocre defense. We'd probably have a NC to show for it.

That's great you got a QB to run your finesse offense and had success. If you are so upset for the kid why don't you go talk to someone at Aggy Land recruiting because it looks like yall are in need of another Manziel.

Did you boys not get the memo? He'll be tearing up the SEC in the near future

In all honesty, will this affect Miss State recruiting? No. I doubt they recruit Texas that hard, and would be surprised if they had more than 5-7 players from TX on their roster. That being said, it was a terrible thing to do mainly because of the timing. Kid was supposed to be an EE, hope he can find a spot somewhere.
