Because he knew, right or wrong, he was driving the final nails in his own coffin at Arkansas.

Jeff Long will be changing his name to Long Gone before the year is up.

Yeah right. Maybe he was emotional because he puts so much time and hard work into your university. He invested trust into CBP and was betrayed. He is running a high stakes program and I'd be worried if the AD didn't express any emotion in such a high tension situation.

He is the dumbest AD in the nation if true.

Would that be the integrity of the program or he actually is fixing to enjoy the arse stompings we're going to suffer in football now? Just curious...

the only good thing i've seen out of jeff long since he was hired was petrino. Other than that he has a laundry list of shite he has fricked up. The basketball search worked out well but we were completely fricked if anderson didn't come on board(dream job). The last football search was only good because petrino fell into our laps. He ruined our track program and now it turns out he can't handle his subordinate personnel.....He should be fired for sucking at his job.

Did you support Arkansas at all before Petrino was the coach? Or did you just jump on board (pun intended)? If so, please jump right back off.

No question about Jeff Long's character. He's got integrity and character. What I do question is his ability. Had the Razorback fanbase not pushed Mike Anderson on him and had Bobby Petrino not fell into his lap, who knows where we would be at right now.

I wish all of our fans could see this. I have faith he will make another great hire.

Hell Petrino feel into his lap. Up until he called Long ole Jeffy boy was getting turned down by the coach of Wake Forest. Yeah, that fricking Wake Forest. He's wrecked the best track program in the history of the NCAA. Now in some misguided fit of stupidity went and canned one of the five best college coaches in America. And a man who has raised revenues to the program by over 80% since he began. What other criteria is there. We are in the SEC. Here it is rules, virtue, integrity or whatever be damned. Win and bring in the $$. Everything else is BS!

I'm afraid Long might have just secured himself a job with a Pro league or a Pres/VP type spot in a major league team.

After this Long will have better career options, Petrino will not. Now if Tenner hires him after next season, Fayetteville to West Memphis may go up in flames.

Now he'd best hope like hell Arkansas wins 20 or more games the next two years or he's toast too. A whole lot of BIG donors gave the program a large amount of money. They are going expect Petrino matching results regardless.

That's why dude has a brass pair. He made this decision knowing it could cost him his job as well. Petrino is one selfish prick. This is how your PERSONAL LIFE can screw it up for a lot of other people.

They should go ahead and fire Jeff Long. Bill Byrne will retire soon. I would take Jeff Long as a replacement. We could bring him as an assistant AD (in waiting).

Jeff Long

It was the hard thing, but the right thing. Petrino's dumbassary screwed over every fan from the biggest of big cigars down to the little toddler in her Arkansas Cheerleader outfit. NONE of the fans deserve this crap. Y'all deserve a stiff drink after this. I'm buying if I happen to meet up with any of you Ark fans.

Long has lost control? I don't see it that way at all. I'm giving him much respect for controlling his entire department.

So, instead of hiring a good coach who was also a good man, Long goes out of his way to hire Petrino when every knew he was a sack of s**t and now we are supposed to act like Long is a man of virtue for cleaning up the mess he created? This is bonkers.

Still, EVERYONE knew Petrino was a terrible person, more so than the average coach, before he was hired.

Why are we giving props to a guy for just doing his job? He should be fired for hiring Petrino.
