Historically? Yes.

If you are talking about in the last few years, then yeah, maybe. If you are talking all time they are not even in the discussion.

You must be solely talking about overall wins alone.

Washington? Colorado? Kansas State?

I mean, sure, Rutgers has played a shite ton more games than MSU, thus they will have more overall wins, but its a no brainer to me which school I would want to go to if I was a recruit out of high school.

So, essentially, your saying the PAC12, ACC, and B1G are superior conferences to the Big12?

Would love to know how you arrived at all your conclusions...

I flipped through the division 1 teams and I had MSU sitting at 45.

Historically I'd agree with you, but my point was overall win percentage doesn't mean a program is better now.

They are right around 35 presently. Historically I have no idea. One of you said around 100 based on wins. I'm not sure the number of wins is the best measure. Dan Mullen has the program generally going in the right direction. The problem is the rest of the West excluding OM is loaded with talent.

Go back 2 more years and you'll see us in the top 50 in '09, and in the top 15 in '10. Already been posted.

It's almost as if you're not even reading the thread you're posting in.

And, again, you're picking out a specific time frame.

I know it doesn't mean much, but going conference by conference, and evaluating relevance re history, recent history, WP, facilities, etc., IMO these 50 teams are (clearly) better than MSU:

SEC
1. Bama
2. AU
3. Pigs
4. LSU
5. UGA
6. UF
7. USCe
8. Tennessee
9. aTm
10. Mizzou

Big XII-II-II+II
11. OU
12. Okie Lite
13. Texas
14. Baylor
15. Texas Tech

B 1 G Ten
16. tOSU
17. Michigan
18. Wisconsin
19. MSUn
20. Nebraska
21. Ped State
22. Iowa

Pac-12
23. USCe
24. Oregon
25. Stanford
26. Washington
27. Arizona State
28. Cal
29. Utah

ACC
30. FSU
31. Miami
32. VA Tech
33. Clemson
34. GA Tech
35. UNC
36. BC

Big East
37. West Virginia
38. Cincinnati
39. Pitt
40. USF
41. UConn

MWC
42. TCU
43. Boise State
44. Air Force

Conference USA
45. Houston
46. ECU
47. Southern Miss (only 2nd best in your own state?)

Independent
48. Notre dame
49. BYU

Sun Belt
50. Troy

Please note that teams such as K-State, which has had more recent success than MSU did not make my list. Historically relevant teams such as Syracuse, UCLA, Colorado, and Arizona also did not make the list.

Have at it.

What an awful list. Troy and 3 CUSA teams? That's silly.

Why?

Troy has a good record historically: 494-368-27. Granted, they were a lower division team for a number of years, but program-wise that are at least equal to (if not better than) MSU.

CUSA...

ECU has a better historical record - 401-371-11. They have a 50K seat stadium. What's not to love?

Houston - Better overall record than MSU (383-334-15), and certainly better than MSU last year. Smaller stadium than MSU's, but I'd rather live in Houston than Starkvegas.

Southern Miss - Much better record - 560-373-27. Cooler uniforms. Plus, knowing that you're second best in your own state (and that it REALLY pisses you off) makes it that much better.

Your turn.

Southern Miss would never win more than 8 games if they played in the SEC

Troy has beaten a total of 0 BCS schools in the past 4 years.

We beat them by more than 3 touchdowns in 2010

Again, we're not talking historical. We know we're not top 50 historically. We're talking about current. Overall record is not a direct indicator of ranking. They're an upper tier CUSA team that occasionally steals one from the big east.

Southern had a good year last year. They were not a great team, and are not better than us. Also, they have a losing record against both MSU and ole miss.

Well, TBH MSU does have a sizeable lead in the WP vs. Bama.

0.190 to 0.109

I may have to re-evalate my top 50 that's better than MSU. I'm sure that I could slide an UCLA or a Colorado into USM's slot. No prob!

They also play in the Sun Belt and have only been in division 1 football since 2001. 2-3 in bowl games(compared to 10-8). 68-58 since moving to D-1. 2-27 against BCS teams in the last decade.

8-8 in bowl games(compared to 10-8 in bowl games) and 7-29 against BCS conference members in the last decade, mostly Big East and ACC competition, which isn't including losses to programs like Louisville, Cincinnati, and USF before they became Big East members.

How objective is "cooler uniforms"? Southern Miss has had a better history than us, I'll admit, but they are not better than us now. Other than Virginia(lol ACC) and a Houston team that looked like they didn't want to be there Southern Miss played nothing but cupcakes last year. Southern is nowhere near as relevant as we are right now.

So you rather wanting to live in Houston than Starkville means Houston has a better football program?

They still have a better overall record. At least they've held their own on the scoreboard...unlike MSU.

We're talking last year and historical. Much better resume` than MSU. Plus location.

If we want to stay at 14 conference members. I say we go for Houston (for another Texas team) and kick you guys the hell out!

MSU is 14-12 all-time vs. USM. Such dominance.

No, I actually like USM's uniforms...in a Pittsburgh Steeler/U of Iowa way. Now that aTm's in the conference, their colors, uniforms, and history are gonna supercede that of MSU's in a major capacity. Recruits will rather play for aTm than MSU if they base it solely on visual aesthetics.
