FL, TX = 3 schools (6)
CA, AL, GA, OK, MI= 2 each (10)
TN, AR, VA, OH, PA, NE, ID, MO, WV, SC, OR, WA, UT =1 (13)
So 29 sure losses
States that have schools that are 50/50
FL, TX = 2 (4 x .5 = 2)
NC, KS, KY, OR, CA = (5 x.5 = 2.5)
I'd say top 35 (over the last 5 yrs.)
(ETA: Had this conversation w/ a west coast colleague. He was talking about the SEC being Top Heavy and looked at winning percentages and specifically pointed out MSU. I say win percentages are relative to the SOS. MSU generally has several talented players that get overlooked, but would be all conf. if playing in another conf. I specifically mentioned Fletcher Cox ...colleague said "who?"....Thank you NFL brain trusts for proving my point.

Definitely top 50 since the SEC started divisions.
Since 1992 (when the SEC started divisions), MSU's winning percentage is 47%, which puts them tied for 75th in the country in that time.

MSU has won 109 games since 1992, which puts them tied for 72nd in the country in that time.

Three have won BCS Championships and one has not.

Yeah. I'd give them 30-35ish range. Real question. Is Ole Miss a top 75 team?

Actually good guess. But not my point.
Texas 858 - 333 (.7143)
Ohio State 825 - 316 (.7131)
USC 779 - 313 (.7033)
Auburn 718 - 405 (.6338)

Realistically as a program, we're somewhere between #25 and #40. From recruiting, to rankings, to attendance, to money. Probably #30ish right now, with little ability to move much higher than #25 or so as a program without longterm sustained success and multiple stadium expansions.
#31 in '11
#15 in '10
#45 in '09
#32 attendance 2011
#37 attendance 2010
#36 attendance 2009, nation's greatest increase
After the stadium expansion that's already breaking ground, we will be ~ top 25 in attendance.
The Bulldog Club brought in $37.6 mil last year in private donations, which best I can tell put us 3rd in the SEC.

historically? Hell no we arent
Now? Absolutely. With the modern day SEC and the money it brings, we have now built the facilities and have the fanbase capable of being a top 50 program.
We got rid of our antiquated leadership and replaced it with forward thinking younger blood. And the improvements are showing. Nothing but good things ahead for Mississippi State

Historically? No.
Currently? Yes.
You should have tried mentioning that a 5-7 SEC team blew out the Big East champion. Or Sherrod.

Historically we're not just in the basement, we're taking a bubble bath in the fricking septic tank.
Currently, we're a top 30 program, and because we're so historically awful a) some of our fans get so elated about mediocrity, they go a bit insane b) opposing fans always think we're terrible, and can't imagine we could ever field a team good enough to beat them.

Is there fifty other teams better?
No. If we're counting the current 120+ FCS teams.

Judging by the last five years, 57 teams have a better W% than MSU. And we know that they're well below #58 histoorically.
MSU #58 in winning % the last 5 years

So the odds of MSU being 7-0 when they play Bama is at 0%
Posted on 7/14/12 at 2:21 pm to bamascott2
Well that's see dumbass. If we got to play the conferences of 3/4 of the teams above us we would have a much better record. Kind of like if Bama played in the Big X the would be #1 instead of Michigan.

Yep...they'll be 6-1. But that still has nothing to do with verification of them as a top 50 team.

But if you played in another conference your players would be way shittier. The reason for the talent you have is because they wanted to play for an SEC school. So I think whether or not you were playing an SEC schedule is a wash.
