My reason for starting this thread is because FSN was showing the 2005 Fresno State vs. USC game. Bush went off, but it got me to thinking. For as good as Reggie Bush was, he really did all of his damage against sorry arse teams. There's no doubt he was a great player, but in 2005 you had people ready to declare him the greatest running back of all time.

It's not nice to make fun of Arkansas like that

Julio-lead his national championship team in every receiving category, and that was an "off-year" for him-he doesnt belong in this convo.

Well I would hope so considering he's the #1 receiver.

He still rushed for 260 yards on UCLA who finished 10-2

I'm going with Julio Jones. He's a good player portrayed as a great player.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Joe McKnight.

ETA: I only read the title of the thread when I replied. No wonder no has mentioned him. But still, he was pretty overrated it seems.

average well over 6 ypc for his career and rushed for 1000 yards last year. There have been plenty of big time recruits that were way worse than him. shite, USC had 2 or 3 RBs last year that were 5 stars and way worse than McKnight

You think someone who has only played 1 full season and still has 2 more left to play is the most overrated SEC player in the past 10 years? Really?

Yeah, that is definitely decent. I guess my point is that a lot of people spoke of him like he was the best football player to ever come out of high school around the south. I seriously expected his name to be as big as someone like Reggie Bush the way the recruitniks were gushing about him. I just never heard much about him after he went out to Cali, except for the SUV thing of course. Wasn't he injured his sophomore season?

Terrence Cody fits that. He wasn't even the best NT in the SEC.

He was a consensus All-American. That doesn't happen too often. If he would have only been picked by one or two services I might agree with you.

I would still consider that hype driven (granted most of the hype was coming from playing for Alabama)

ETA if jerell powe played for Alabama he would be a consensus all American too

He simply had ridiculous expectation that were completely unfair to him. By his junior year he was easily underrated by most USC fans simply because he didn't perform up to their crazy, unrealistic expectations
