Right. I get that. It's a hypothetical question regarding his statement that Mizzou had done so well and aTm had not. That didn't happen in a bubble.

Just curious about what he thought. I know how you feel about the subject.

It was more about aTm than Mizzou.

No, but transplant any east team to the west in that same stretch and none of them win the West. 2013 would have been the best chance, I still don't think we get enough credit for how good that team ended up, they were very good.

Mizzou still won games against the West in that stretch: 2x A&m, Ole Miss, Arky.

Exactly. And aTm may have won the East once or twice.

Good to talk ball with y'all. Yesterday I was seeing all this "f these redneck sumbitches" and everything. I was like wtf?
Meanwhile while responding to this thread there was a "should we kick out A&M with Mizzou" thread going on at the same time.
Now I get it.

The only argument I have with that is Mizzou beat them twice, and South Carolina would have won the 2013 division. 2012 was all Georgia. 2014 would of had a chance, but last year they really fell off and probably would have in the east as well.

Odom ought to be a bit better. Pinkel was guilty of not having every position be up for grabs each year, and sticking with "his guys". Then even it would become painfully obvious that the backup was better, he still wouldn't change. His motto was "We Do What We Do".

I remember watching a Mizzou game your first year in the SEC and the offensive game plan seemed to be run one of 3 plays where your QB was attempting some version of play option. Nothing seemed to work and the entire game looked like an instant replay of the same few plays. I believe you still won because the opponent was UCONN or Delaware or someone of that nature but it was one of the worst games I watched all season. I guess if you are Nick Saban then doing the "we do what we do" thing is a good plan but if you are still trying to reach that level then maybe not so much.

Odom has already shown to be much more innovative, bringing in Heupel and JJ Finley from Baylor to revamp the offense, and getting TCU's D-Coordinator. He also has let every position up for grabs, and may not even release a depth chart before the WVU game. Every kid has a shot, shown by the emergence of the walkon Jordan Harold at DE, who's been able shine on one of the best DL's in the country.

Well that's a good sign for your fans I guess, that sounds like he at least has an idea of what needs to change to improve.

Defense should be the same high quality we've come to expect. We lost only 2 impact players, 1 to the NFL and 1 to dismissal. But from what we've been hearing, this year's crew should be quite a bit faster, and the DL is said to be much tougher on stopping the run.

Interesting, I read about the Charles Harris boy you have that was not even recruited by any colleges but is already preseason ALL SEC, if you manage to duplicate that trend with more walk ons/no-names you could indeed be formidable in the East, assuming the offense takes a major step forward. If Odom can continue the trend of getting the occasional big player like Sheldon Richardson and Terry Beckner and developing the 2-3 or no star guys like Harris into really good players and fix the other side of the ball for you, that could be the kind of system that would work at Mizzou. It does sound like he(Odom) has already done some good work, starting with a house cleaning of most of the previous staff. I would guess he kept a few around, like the DLine coach who are clearly getting it done?

Do you expect Odom to be as good or a better coach than Pinkel?

I think Odom can help the program take the next step. He brought in guys that had preexisting relationships in rich recruiting areas and have produced several elite players. He kept the best instate recruiters from the prior staff. The only real unknown quantity he brought in was his oline coach and it doesn't take much being around Elarbee to figure out that he knows his craft.

Is your QB a pocket passer or dual threat?

Lock can move the pocket and has elite arm strength. He isn't going to get 10+ designed carries a game but he can move the chains with his legs if there is break down.

quote:

How do you expect your defense to be this year versus last year?

Brothers is tough player to replace but the fact is that since 2005, every starter at WLB has went on to play in the NFL. They have done a good job of filling that spot every time. Brady's production will be replaced by a rotation of guys and the DTs are all the same from last year. The back end of the defense can be better on 3rd down and forcing TOs but Odom hired a new CB coach to help with that.

quote:

Who are your best skilled players, RBs? WRs?

Andy Hill moving back to the WR room was one of the best moves Odom made. That position group was one of the consistencies of GP's tenure and when they moved Hill to QBs and brought in Pat Washington, several things started to erode. Chris Black is being counted on in the slot but the guys I am keeping an eye on are Keyon Dilosa, Emanuel Hall, and Desean Blair. They are all guys that have length to provide mismatches outside. They all got left on the bench last year in favor of upperclassmen that were under performing.

At RB Ross is going to have to carry the load. Witter can be an important part of the offense if he is used correctly but if he is getting 15+ carries a game, it won't be good.

I'm hoping so. His immediate changes to the brand are very promising. Results on field are TBD, but he is saying all the right things for me.

quote:

PP but very athletic. Had D1 offers (including Oklahoma) for basketball.

quote:

More versatile than last year. Brothers was a one man wrecking crew, but we bring back almost everyone else, so very experienced.

quote:

What is the capacity of your stadium?

71,168 I believe. Recent construction has fluctuated it every season.

Great question. Offense was a genuine suckfest last year...but I'm hoping grad transfers Alex Ross and Chris Black take the reins. Literally can't go lower than second worst offense in FBS.

When Pinkel first got here he was one hard motherfricker. Very strict and about as far from a players coach as you can get. Damn near got him fired too. He softened a bit, and thats when he had his most success.

Last year though, I think he just kind of gave up. He wasnt in it anymore, and at this level you simply cant have any type of let down or you'll get eaten alive. Which he did.

Great coach, and did well here, but it was time for him to move on. Glad he didnt hang around a couple extra years past his time like alot of coaches do.

Well said and correct on all counts and I didn't mean to diminish his success. It was more the irony that his undoing came from trying to be Father Flanagan and tolerating the bullshite instead of being who he used to be - a hard MF'ing football coach.

Sounds like Odom went to the right place to find those offensive assistants from Baylor. That should help some I'd think.
