I guess my entire question was why do alumni show up? It's been answered by the fact that they enjoy the whole experience, but I don't get why you'd drive past a minor league park that's a lot closer and just set your BBQ up in the parking lot and develop a tailgating scene there where there's (generally) better baseball.

You just have to have the college baseball experience at one of the baseball schools before you can understand it. I can't explain it any better than I have already.

It's ALOT easier to invest in the alma mater where you have a team that's locked in from year to year(really for 3 years if you follow it closely) -- against hated rival teams where the players actually give it 110% and have pride in trying to win every game for their school...than it is to really CARE about who wins a minor league game that the players themselves could give a shite about -- for teams and towns that they didn't choose, but got stuck with and most likely hate -- when every time your team becomes great and the players become household names, it gets raided mid season by the MLB team and you essentially start over...

Nope, you explained it perfectly. I get it.

I've got season tickets for the local minor league hockey and the minor league baseball team here. I get it completely.

That's all it took. That being said, I did set up the whole tailgating/BBQ thing here locally when people had your previous argument about their former teams and why they don't show up to our Las Vegas team, which is why my first response was what it was.

I have never met an SEC baseball fan irl or even had a conversation about it with a fan of another SEC team like football or basketball. It may be a fun experience, but the reality is that it's irrelevant for the most part even in SEC country.

Don't try to speak for "SEC country" when you are the outlier -- not the norm for the conference...

SEC baseball is going to outdraw SEC basketball this year in total numbers. Whether or not you want to accept it, it's a big deal for a significant majority of the conference...

Depends on where the minor league organization is at. I know in the Texas League, the Texas teams and STL's AA team are in the same states with the MLB teams. They love it when AA players make it to the BIGS. I've seen a lot of Springfield players make it to STL. STL actually owns their AA team in Springfield.

I also believe it's like that with the Eastern League, most of their AA teams are in the same states or area with their MLB teams.

I'm in Vegas. Our AAA team has switched between the Padres (which was awesome) to the Dodgers, to the Blue Jays, and now the Mets in the last few years. Baseball is tough enough to get people to come see. It's even worse when your players are being fed to the east coast teams you don't care about (which has been the case since we switched from the Padres).

It's about the experience. That's all baseball is about. I'm a Cubs fan, I go to Wrigley for the experience. When there's so many games, the games are generally meaningless in terms of playoff implications until the end of the year. It's about the experience.

For some reason I thought these SEC people really watched the game, and I'm sure some of them do. Hell, I'll keep score on occasion, but it's really the experience of the game more than the game itself.

We don't have it. Hopefully we do some day, like I've said...it will take time.

This thread has ended fairly well.

Start a new thread for this type of shite if you desire.

I'm a Royals fan, I love Kauffman stadium over Busch in STL. But STL Cards games are more fun to attend when you have 40,000 fans there, just hate NL baseball because of the pitchers batting.

I live in the past when it comes to the Royals, we kicked arse in the AL in the 70's-mid 80's. When I moved to SW Missouri in 98' all I could find on TV was STL Cards games, all you see in stores is STL Cards merchandise. STL have an affiliate here in Joplin, KC Royals don't and we are closer to KC than STL. It seems like the KC Royals belong to Kansas, it's strange

MS schools
LSU
aTm
Arky
S. Carolina

These seem to be the only schools where it's a big deal. Significant majority?

True you really don't see Bama, Auburn, Florida, Tenn, UGA, and Vandy fans bragging or talkin about baseball. Like I said if your team is good, you'll talk smack, if not, then you don't get into all that crap. I'm sure Florida fans are more into their basketball program right now compared to their baseball program.

ETA: Hell UK is good and rarely see them talk baseball compared to basketball or football.

Shitty fan base in BASEBALL? Their fans showed up for football and basketball. I'm sure there's other SEC schools that suck in baseball and have low attendance.

If the number of dick measuring baseball threads were any indication of a team's attendance, Arkansas and LSU would outdraw the Dodgers.

Vandy likes baseball, and I call bullshite on the rest. I remember when Alabama baseball was good and when they were winning Bama fans came out in droves

Their payroll is lower though, not a fair comparison.
