Exactly. It was Alcorn. Our starter was out. The next guy was Damian Williams. We weren't about to pound it with Dak all game. He played one half. He had a nice td run off the read option. Stop looking at stats.
so what are you guys arguing?... that mullen is about to start doing stuff this Saturday that he's been reluctant to do the first two games this year and all of last year?
Prescott is not some silver bullett that's been sitting on your bench waiting to save your program... he appears to be a decent QB who also poses a running threat. Hardly an earth shattering skillset.

Russell will probably play if he is cleared, unless Muffin is trollin Auburn's staff.

We're arguing that just like everything else(coaches, playing young people) Mullen is stubborn, and that if he plays Prescott we have a much better shot of winning. That's not the case if Prescott comes in down two tds and not a lot of time.

What is your fanbases's general thoughts on the game?... confident?... pessimistic?

I think you are seeing it here. Do the right thing and we think we win. Don't and we think we lose. Defense will be ready. Auburn will still score some. Should be a close game.
It's not that we think Prescott has to play every drive, but we have to use him to be successful this year.

I'll return to my grind after this, but if he can't look at stats, what can he look at? There's hardly any game film and Dak simply isn't experienced, but he is receiving a ton of hype that has yet to be earned by grinders.
Not that is matters cause Auburn sux /grindon

I think we'll have success getting to the corners on your defense, similar to what OSU was able to do... I also think our DL is playing better and can control your OL, especially with Malone's injury.
I do think it will be a very close game... similar to 2011...

I know the stats don't always tell the whole story so I will just have to take your word for it, but I remain skeptical.
You really thought we were going to unleash our QB(with only a a true freshman behind him -- and the senior starter out) to run against Alcorn St the week before Auburn?

It seems great, but just about everything works against a team when there is that large of a talent, size and strenght discrepancy.
To what extent do I need to break this down for you? I'm NOT talking about the "results" of plays from either game. I'm talking about formations, reads, assignments, looks, predictability factors, etc...
All that can be looked at independent of opponent -- and would have graded an F in the first game and a B or C in the second game regardless of opponent...

I looked up Saturday's stats and was unimpressed with his running numbers. I was then told, why would he run against Alcorn State when there is only a true freshman to back him up. I feel like the MSU posters are talking in circles a bit on this issue.

I haven't seen the hype you are talking about. I just see fans that are sick of watching our offense look so awful with Russell. And we know for a fact that Prescott is a better passer than Relf. And smarter. And a better runner than Russell.

We're arguing that we can and should run Dak right up your arse -- after we discouraged him from running against Alcorn St.

Yep -- you don't know what you are talking about.

My point was that there aren't really any stats to look at. He pointed to Dak running four times for 20 yards. That's nothing to base an opinion on. We were keeping him from injury and playin a shitty team. He said not to put emphasis on Alcorn and I'm not. He also wanted to use the stats from when Prescott was dropping straight back and slinging the ball around, which is not what he would be doing vs Auburn.

Merlins has spoken.
"Every year it's been something new with them," he said.
Mullen discussed that, and gave an outsider's view of Auburn, in his weekly press conference Monday. He said Auburn's previous two games this season really aren't much to go on, and wishes he knew more about the plans of head coach Gus Malzahn, offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson.
"It certainly does make it difficult," Mullen said. "There's a whole new offensive staff. You can look at Arkansas State from last year and Auburn from three or four years ago on offense (with Malzahn). You can look at Southern Miss and South Carolina from three or four years ago (with Ellis). But that's not this year's team for them. That's what makes it hard because you want to look at this year's team. What are they doing with their players? They're very good coaches over there and they're making sure within their system putting their players in a position to make plays. You just don't have a lot of looks at what they are and what they want to be and what their personality is."
He may not have a lot of looks, but he said he likes running backs Tre Mason, Corey Grant and Cameron Artis-Payne, and said quarterback Nick Marshall is dangerous.
"They've got three big-time running backs that can all make big plays in the open field," Mullen said. "They have dynamic wide receivers who can beat you before and after the catch for big plays. They have a quarterback who has hit a lot of big throws down the field and will keep you honest. He can improvise on his own, and if you don't account for him, he's going to hurt you."

There's plenty to look at if you are a fan of MSU or otherwise are attempting to give an honest scouting report...
Dak threw TD passes in 4 of our 8 SEC games last year and ran for a TD in another one -- including becoming the only freshman(maybe ever) to throw TD passes against both LSU and Alabama in the same season on the road. He also took 3 knees at UK when everyone knew he could have punched it in.
So, in reality, the only two games of consequence that he didn't score in last year as a clearcut #2 RSFR QB was Auburn and Texas A&M -- games he played in for 2 plays each...
