I lived in Texas for a while. East Texas is shite. Almost all of Louisiana is shite also. Mississippi has some good parts and bad parts. I like the gulf coast a lot as I live here. The delta in Mississippi is probably the worst part of the United States

Lifelong Mississippi resident who hates the Delta. That is the ugliest most God-forsaken place in America. If you take out the Delta Mississippi's rankings in education and per capita income jump up to the high 20's to low 30's. That place is a shitehole.

Let's put one thing into perspective about the Delta. If you take away the Delta you take away the Blues and if you take away the Blues you take away all the Rock music that followed and if you take away Rock we'd all still be listening to Classical Music right now. So next time you want to shite on the Delta I hope you realize that almost all American music originated there. frick Texas.

I do not get this hire at all. How are you a competitive SEC team hiring someone with NO DC experience? It could work out but this is such a huge gamble. Should have gone with Paul Rhoads.

Lol no. There was an emphasis on Lb's and recruiting, and a guy with an overall sense of urgency to improve.

Great, hire him as a LB coach and recruiting coordinator then, not as a playcaller.

I'd rather have a young coach who is ascending rapidly over a retread.

Thanks to the Mississippi Delta which is comparable to a third world country ?

THANK YOU!!! I was just coming to post this! Mississippi's stats are bad BC the delta is a horrid, povertous place. It is a third-world country. I grew up around Natchez, and thought that's how all of Mississippi looked. Boy, was I wrong!!! I ended up in college at Delta State and worked in outside collections for a furniture co. I have seen all the nooks and crannies of the delta, and it is PUTRID and SAD. But, once you get past Greenwood going east and Vicksburg south, Miss is hilly and absolutely beautiful! And to be fair, every state has its crapholes. Arky is one of the most beautiful states in the nation, but you wouldn't know it driving north from west Memphis!

I get what you're saying, but it would be nice if the delta had made some sort of economic and social progress since the days of the blues. What if Detroit hadn't made any such progress since the days of Motown? Never mind.....

The ride up 61 from Vicksburg to Walls passes through the perhaps the shittiest part of our nation, rivaled only by the path between Tallulah and Jennette which is convienently just accross the river.

This entire area could only be fixed with a great fire of biblical proportions.

Yeah, and the thing I never got while I was up there is why doesn't Mississippi value that whole concept enough to help encourage more industry besides chicken and catfish processing plants, put more emphasis on education in the area, start annexing a few more acres of farmland from these big overseas companies (who own most of the delta) to help the towns that are there to expand and get some breathing room, and help get the infrastructure in place to capitalize on the exact point you just made. The problem is that Miss government likes to turn its back on the delta and pretend it doesn't exist until a congressman from another state wants to tour the delta to see exactly what true poverty looks like. Then Miss gets all mad at everyone BC the truth hurts, and they know they're doing the area and its people wrong.

Peter Sirmon is set to be named the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State.

I liked him when he was LB coach at Tennessee. I thought he did a great job. I don't know if he is ready to be a DC yet, but if you are going to gamble on someone, he is a good one to bet on.
