Am I seeing this right. A state fan grabbing on to Bama's sack in order to get a flame in. Don't make me look up how many decades it has been since state got a win against the Tigers.

Tech and Houston were ranked that year, just saying. It was reported on numerous sites that we had the hardest strength of schedule that year.

Wins by opponent=/= strongest schedule

First you got a bump by playing in the SEC and even moreso by playing in the west. But you can't tell me your schedule in 09' was anything to brag about compared to teams that played Ga tech, Ok State, AZ or Alabama, Nebraska or Ohio State Notre Dame or LSU and Notre Dame for their OOC

It's easy to have a hard SOS when you're State (or Kentucky). Just saying.

And yes, opponent win % is not nearly the same thing as SOS.

Okay that wasn't fair. It has only been 12 in a row or 13 years...which ever you prefer.

And at the time you played Tech and Houston, they were ranked #25 and unranked, respectively.

State played 5 teams in 2009 that were ranked on the day they played them:

#7 LSU: L 26-30
#25 Georgia Tech: L 24-31
#1 Florida: L 19-29
#2 Alabama: L 3-31
#25 Ole Miss: W 41-27

State didn't beat a single ranked team in 2011 and their only win over a ranked team in 2010 was over #22 Florida.

State's last victory over a top 20 opponent was in 2008 when they beat #13 Vanderbilt. In 2007 they beat #14 Kentucky. Hard to believe those two teams were ranked in the top 15...

MSU seasons always begin with 9 or 10 win seasons and end with billboards about how they own the State of Mississippi.

Kentucky was #8 at one point that season.

It may be hard to believe now but that team was really, really good. Most of those guys are getting a lot of snaps in the NFL now.

yep

so what? Our West schedule is tougher than LSU's, Bama's, and Arkansas' every season- because we have to play all 3 and they dont. Whether you like that or not- it factors into SOS

Hell- State, Auburn, and Mississippi were the only 3 teams in the country last season to play 3 top 5 teams from the final poll. That makes our SOS tougher because other teams dont have to deal with that

From one State fan to another-
Please end this topic, you are not helping our cause.

Indeed.

Though Houston's 31-24 win over State in Starkville moved them up from unranked to #23 in the land. Beating State counts for a lot in the polls!

The week prior to beating State, Houston lost to UTEP by a 58-41 count, dropping Houston out of the polls. That UTEP team went on to finish the season 4-8. Houston had been ranked #12 prior to the UTEP loss because they beat #5 Oklahoma State in week 2 -- the only ranked team Houston played that season.

But hey -- let's talk more about how epicly awesome the 2009 Houston Cougars were with their 10-4 record.

Beats talking about State's incredibly awesome chances at going 10-2 this coming season.

Wrong. They lost to East Carolina in the title game. They won their division and then proceeded to lose the conference title game and their bowl game.

Middle Tenn won the Sun Belt and won 10 games that year.

Also wrong. Troy won the Sun Belt that year.

Georgia Tech won the ACC and went to a BCS bowl in 2009.

Georgia Tech did win the ACC but (wait for it!) was forced to vacate that championship last year by the NCAA due to rules violations.
