They could start out 7-0.
First game on their schedule is the Maroon-White Game.
You really think State is going to win that game?
LINK
Seriously though... Jackson State, Troy, South Alabama and Middle Tennessee?
At least Ole Miss has Texas on the schedule in 2012 and 2013 and Boise State in 2014.
ETA: Whereas State has no OOC opponent of any significance scheduled between now and 2015. Is Merlins skeered to travel? Guess only rent a wins will play in StarkVegas.
State's schedule is an embarassment.

playing the top schedule in the nation in 2009 got us a 5-7 record and no bowl- were you congratulating us for playing such a tough slate then???
After we roll off 5-6 straight bowl games, then we will schedule up again

Got to go the safe route and say 8-4, but if we get Auburn, it's 9-3 baby!!!

And apparently after losing to #25 Georgia Tech and unranked Houston in back to back weeks, State learned their lesson and decided to never schedule any OOC teams that had a decent chance of beating them.
BTW, last year's epic overtime win over La Tech was phenomenal.
State belongs in Conference USA.

Georgia Tech won the ACC and went to a BCS bowl in 2009.
Houston won 10 games and won C-USA that year
Middle Tenn won the Sun Belt and won 10 games that year.

All the more reason State would make a fine addition to either of those conferences.
Who knows...they might even allow you to use your cowbells without the threat of penalties.
More cowbell is what Conference USA needs.
