Why do you even care? Does it hinder your life in some way? At the end of the day this is simply entertainment. People should cheer for what they enjoy, not what stuckup aholes tell them is appropriate based on their life experiences.
Holy butthurt, apparently someone has taken a lot of shite for being a sidewalker.
eta: Oh, and requirements.
Preferred: You attended school there.
Minimum:
a) Your parents/sibling/children/significant other went or goes there.
b) You were born and raised in the area (BR, Oxford, etc.)
c) You adopted them at an early age and have NEVER EVER abandoned them because of poor performance.
d) If none of the above are true, then you are a sidewalk fan UNLESS you donate money. If you just randomly up and decided to adopt a team, but you donate money, then you aren't a sidewalker because you're helping out.
If you can't say yes to at least one of those requirements, you are a pure bandwagon fan, simple as that.

Killian, we need to chit chat. I'm looking for a licensing partner on a couple products. I'm curious which schools your family is producing currently.

I've been a Bama fan since I was a fetus but graduated from MSU.
I've always been a fan and that has never changed. It just pisses me off that someone thinks they are a better fan because of this, this, and this....

understanding the difference from taking your helmet off on the field during regulation and popping it off after making a key play to end the game.
Oh, wait, that would eliminate one of the CBS announcers.

LOYALTY and PRIDE....whether win or lose!!
If an alumnus, there is no exception.

To be a true fan,
Ah, now there's the rub... there has been much argument and division in Arkansas over the past few years, usually centered around the Nutt coaching era and the Great Stadium Debate (known as GSD)about what constitues a 'true fan'.
It even got to the point of 'true fans' (as they thought they were), hoping for losses, to speed the exit of HDN. I was for the exit of HDN, but not to the point that I wanted to team to lose, whether it hastened it or not. Also, evidently, all 'true fans' are Northwest Arkansas fanatics, the rest of the state be damned.
Don't mean to open a can of worms on here - but just illustrating the kinds of 'true fan' arguments that been going on in Arkansas for several years now.

So you pulled against State, the place that granted you a degree, in favor of 'Bama, some school you just randomly adopted?
In the hierarchy of sidewalkers, you are one of the fricking worst.

Non PSU grads paying taxes in PA are not allowed to laugh that every academic risk in our state that seems bound for 13th grade ends up @ WVU ?
Your example has more to do with your state's education system than what I'm talking about.
My example would be more like:
Individual 1: "We Longhorns don't want to sully ourselves in the SEC because they are academically inferior".
Individual 2: You couldn't even get into Texas, dumbass! You couldn't even get into TECH. STFU!

I know plenty of people who were born Alabama fans and their parents were Alabama alumni but they went to Auburn for either veterinary school or architecture and they are still die hard Alabama fans.

I'm from NWA and went to Arkansas. So youre saying that I'm the truest of true Razorback fans.

This is ludicrous. Alabama very well may not offer the degree he was seeking. Or maybe he lived in Miss and couldnt afford out of state tuition and instead had to attend a school in state.
The fact that he stayed true to the team that he had been a fan of since he was a "fetus", as he put it, to me is even MORE of a testament to just how much a TRUE Alabama fan he is.

In most sports the only requirement is that you say you are a fan.
But in college sports, I believe there are at least two type of fans at most schools (the percentages is what makes it confusing). There are the true fans (Usually have a connection through themselves, their parents, or their children) and then there are the sidewalk fans who just pull for a team for no true reason.
Updyke, Teabagger, etc. are not true Alabama fans. But, it is a shame that the 80% of exceptions make the 20% of good True Alabama fans look bad. (P.S., my percentages are biased)

Grad school is much different IMO.
Even in undergrad, I don't have a problem with people that continue being a fan of their team they grew up cheering for. But at the same time, I don't know why you would want to do that because it seems like it would take a way a lot from your college experience.
