Why do you even care? Does it hinder your life in some way? At the end of the day this is simply entertainment. People should cheer for what they enjoy, not what stuckup aholes tell them is appropriate based on their life experiences.

Pretty much sums it up......I hate fans that are only "fans" when their team is winning.

Does his opinion of what a fan is affect your life in some way?

It sure sounds like it does.

Same boat but I did fund TWO college educations from The University of Alabama and proud of both of them. As a young man I was not able to attend college and had to go to work but I wanted to make sure both of my children would be able to go to school and get a good education....It was worth every dime I spent and if someone wants to call me a sidewalk fan I dont really care.

Must be one of the Bama football/ UK basketball threads.

IMO a "true" fan of a college has attended games of at least three sports.

Pretty much a combination of everything in this thread, except of course the agtard that said you have to donate shite tons of money to them. I understand, like many, that you dont have to be rich to be a fan of a team. Some people cant afford to donate a bunch of money to their school of preference and that has absolutely nothing to do with their fandom.

If you bleed whatever colors represents your school, regardless of current success, then you can say that you are a fan of that team imo.

Then you are an absolute idiot.

I enjoy football and basketball. That is it. I despise baseball and have since I was a kid, as well as most other college sports. However, I want them all to do well because I believe the more sports your school does well in has an impact on its athletic department as a whole.

I have attended both basketball and football games for Alabama. I can assure you that my lack of attendance at another sporting event has absolutely NOTHING to do with anything.

Yeah, I agree. I stared it by saying I'd spent enough for a tuition and it was continued with season tickets. Except at Alabama......season tickets are a wealthy and patient man's game. I'm neither. But i've bought lots of tickets for lot's of sports. I can name and locate most of the major buildings on campus. I spent my first 5 years in Alabama where I became a huge fan and lived most of my life only an hour away from Tuscaloosa. If you were representing the script A from 1997-2007 and you're not just a complete embarrasment then Alabama fans are accepting. I think the term "sidewalk alum" is designated for people who no one wants to complain. I'm not offended by it. I could've gone to UA if I wanted and I don't think anyone mistakes me for a common dumb wal-mart fan.

What if you attended a small college (outside of Div I)? Is it then allowable to be a "true" fan?

No, your post was acceptable. You merely stated that you had spent enough money with them that you felt you more than qualified. This tard I was talking about was saying donations and shite are a requirement.

I throw plenty of my money at the UA athletic department, but if I wasnt comfortable enough financially to do so, I would punch someone in the mouth for telling me I wasnt a true fan because of it.

It goes along with the pretentious fricknuts on here that tell you what is and isnt acceptable attire to wear to a football game. Wear whatever the frick you think looks good and is comfortable. If you want to wear khakis and a button down, then wear it. If you want to wear blue jean shorts, a cutoff shirt and one of those visors that has the colored fake hair sticking out the top, then wear that shite too. If people didnt wear that kind of shite then we wouldnt have anyone to make fun of later.

Bottom line TLDR

Be a fan however you want. You are doing it for YOUR enjoyment, not anyone elses.

BINGO!

college sports are not professional franchises. i, for one, am sorry that money runs the big sports and thereby they are run akin to the pro's. it is what it is tho so, accepting reality i want my alma matar up at the top sluggin' it out.

Seems to be pretty common logic among the A&M fan base.

Then you are not a "True" fan according to me. I guess I hit the mark.

I don't like women's softball, soccer, volleyball or lacrosse but they are fun to attend and root for your college team.

It's $40 to join the Alabama Alumni Association, and anyone can join.

If that's "shite-tons of money" to someone athletics are the last thing they need to be concerned with.

Just so you know, if I ever see you away from this board, as promised in another post, I will punch you in the mouth.

That's really not what he meant by "giving" to the alumni association, but OK.
