Stadium is almost ready for Bama-FSU and Tennessee-Georgia Tech. Roof won't be operational but they were going to keep it closed anyway, so shouldn't effect these games.
The schedule of events for the stadium's first 2 weeks
August 26 - Falcons vs Cardinals (Preseason)
August 31 - Falcons vs Jaguars (Preseason)
September 2 - Alabama vs Florida State (CFB)
September 4 - Tennessee vs Georgia Tech (CFB)
September 10 - Atlanta United FC vs FC Dallas (MLS)

I can honestly say I can't believe they very well may get it finished by the game. They've been busting arse this summer.

Nice.
My question is if the roof is not mechanized yet how in the hell do they plan on closing it?

Going to be cool having to look at the sun and the video board at the same time when the roof is open.

It is mechanized, just not operational.
They can close it. They just can't open and close it.

Look at the circle cast. Will this have a pin hole effect for the eclipse?

Roof won't open. Won't be ready till later in the year.

That took a lot of trips to HomeDepot to build .
Looks nice

So it's my understanding the engineer didn't account for the steel flexing when being heated by outside temps rising, and that is what has caused a malfunction in the roof?

The roof is open. They are going to close it and not re-open it until later in the year.
It won't effect these 2 games, though. Still quite the cluster.

Don't worry, State won't be making any trips there, so you are all good.

So Mercedes is sponsoring both the Falcons and Saint's stadiums?

How many days in Atlanta, GA, between late August and January, will it be temperate enough outside to open the roof and the glass walls and still have everyone inside be comfortable? Same question with Jerry World.
The engineering aspect of it is fascinating, but just wondering how practical it is, particularly in comparison to the cost.

It's going to be a team of engineers, and temperature is always in consideration. Heat. Cold. Whatever. Nothing would be designed that large without temperature constraints being used from the very beginning. It's just not possible. There may have been oversight in how temperature affected a certain element, but I don't think and entire team of engineers forgot about the sun.
