I agree. We havent done anything to prove we are elite.

In response to this, who has though? All you can do is go out there and pla the guys across from you on saturday. If you happen to dominate them, good for you. Bama is "hyped" right now because to the naked eye they look like the best team in the country.

I think it's pretty stupid to say bama is the best and number 2 is not even close, but if someone wants to tell me a team they feel is more deserving of being ranked number 1 right now im all eyes.

Bama hasn't proven anything, but you can't prove anything in september really anyway, so it's a moot point

I agree with you. Bama obviously is in a class of about 4-5 teams and maybe just 2 but which team have they beat that is elite? Michigan we all know is was way overrated. Ark was without an AA QB and pretty much quit as a team under a clown of a coach. I think we really find out about both Bama and LSU when they play. Really who else compares? Maybe we will be tested at Florida if they are for real and S Carolina at home. Not sure Bama gets tested. I think there are really only 5 quality teams in the SEC, FL, GA, USC, Bama and LSU.

Really havent beaten a top 10 team. not a team currently ranked in the top 10 or one that will likely be ranked at the end of the season in the top 10. That being said I still believe there is LSU and Bama and then everyone else. I know we have not proven ourselves

as others have said: overrated - no untested - yes

Im not saying that 2012 is going to be remotely similar to 2011. It's just too early to know. But I do have a minor issue with the "untested" argument.

This applies to LSU as well as Alabama. If you beat the living hell out of everybody you play (minus LSU and Bama playing each other), how are you going to be tested? Last year, I think the closest game either LSU or Bama played (aside from meeting each other) was a 13 point margin.

These 2 may prove to be no more than 2 very good college football teams.....or they may be head and shoulders above everyone else, and the only "test" they face is each other. That is yet to be determined.

That is almost illogical. Alabama did beat a top 10 team. After they lost, they dropped. So in order for the team Alabama beat to stay in the top 10, making them a "legit top 10 team", Alabama would have had to lose the game... wat.

ETA: Of course they're currently not a top 10 team. Alabama beat them.

I have to disagree with Kiper. I don't think Alabama is overrated. This early in the season no other team has managed to rise like the Tide. They are the real deal, at least right now.

What more could Bama have done though? Sure, Michigan and Arkansas don't appear to be as good as expected, but it's not like they came close to competing with Bama. All they did was beat the ever-living-dog-shite out of every team they have faced so far.

If Alabama is overrated then Arkansas is in real trouble.

I agree overrated in the sense that some people are already saying we're far better than anyone else. That's ridiculous. Let's play some more football.

But do we not deserve to be number one? Are we over-ranked? If so, where should we be?
