Yep. Go ask Smith if he would do it differently. He lost around 20 million. This will be the trend that we will see from here on out.

So should any of the Cleveland Browns play this week? Yeah, I know they're pros, so it's not quite the same. But they're still risking their careers in an utterly meaningless game.

Ticket buyers have an interest also. Let's say Alabama had ended up in the Sugar Bowl. Sure, the ticket isn't going to be as big of a sell. But after thousands of fans had bought tickets, what if Allen, Williams, Howard, Anderson, Foster, Humphrey, Tomlinson, and Robinson all announce they aren't playing?

They did matter. Where have you been?

And that is the problem with what McCaffery is doing. He's not even claiming he is injured; he fully acknowledges he is skipping the bowl solely to commit to his draft prep. Obviously, he has a right to do what he wants, but its a really crappy thing to do to his teammates and fans.

The opponent would be tickled to death and Saban would resign on the spot. This trend is starting to grow on me.

Retarded? Are you really this stupid? Yeah, as I said, it's not exactly the same...which you obviously were too stupid to grasp...but college players, while not employees, are also providing a service that they are being compensated for.

And the lesson for you is that people with fewer brain cells than a turnip shouldn't throw around the world "retarded."

Not only that, if he has not yet graduated, he should pay his own way 100% the spring semester.

Sitting out a meaningless game that is basically practice for next year? Okay.

plenty of pros sit out games the last week of the regular season if the game will not impact the team's standing.

That's the problem, everything is about money. How about just being a loyal teammate and showing appreciation for the fan base and alumni of your university.

listen up fricknut. just because you qualify a statement by saying, "I know its not a good comparison, but here is my comparison.", it doesn't make it any less of a retarded statement. Matter of fact, it makes it even more so, because you seemed to know ahead of time that it wasn't a valid comparison.

I think McCaffery is just weak for it. I understand not risking injury, but it's the last time to represent the university that put you in a position to be a top pick in a draft.

Exactly, we saw one guy fall from a potential top five pick to 34 because of a bowl game injury. Who are we to judge them for wanting to protect their financial interests?

Can't blame them at all

at the end of the day, playing power 5 conference football is a means to an end

either free college and a degree, go to the NFL, or both. Point being college is just the beginning and is designed to get you into an actual career.

I hear you, but that doesn't pay the bills. If he got good counsel, and I'm sure he did, from someone who said that it is in his financial best interest to sit out the bowl game, then I'm sure any of us would do the same thing.
