I suspect that if LSU was in the playoff, Fournette would play.

I don't think he could be effective. He tried to give it a go against Florida and looked terribly injured. Our team doctors recommended Fournette not play in our bowl game, I doubt that would change.

But I wish we in the playoff so we could see for real!

Also this is stupid.

Bowl games didn't matter when it was just 1 title game. How is this different?

I expect this kind of move is going to start becoming more common as the playoffs have really made smaller bowls feel very degraded.

I think he'd play but Guice would still get more carries. No way he wouldn't suit up in a playoff, at minimum.

I can't blame a player for keeping their future in mind. These bowls are meaningless for everyone except underclassmen and big business.

Exactly, we saw one guy fall from a potential top five pick to 34 because of a bowl game injury. Who are we to judge them for wanting to protect their financial interests?

No, that's not why its stupid. Its just stupid.

How is 4 teams playing for a title de-valuing bowl games so much more than 2 teams playing for a title?

Has the Citrus Bowl become less important than it already was?

Agreed. Maybe you could say the increased emphasis/focus on the CFP is greater than the BCS therefore regular bowls are even more devalued because it is literally a different postseason, but that's semantics.

The difference is that people are more accepting and will eventually look at it as the norm as more and more players make the decision to sit out.

Will bama fans break out the pitch forks over this news like they did with LF?

I'm a bammer, and I personally think it's understandable that Fournette would opt out, considering that he's been a bit injured for most of the year.

As far as I know, that isn't the case with McCaffrey. Seems like that is letting your team down.

The playoff has made the public (and player's) perception of bowl games change.

The circumstances havent changed, just people's opinions.

Also there are so many junk bowls now they devalue the significance of playing in a bowl.

Fournette checked out after the Bama game.

He played several games after bama on one ankle and kept getting hurt. He also wasn't that effective because he kept trying to play hurt. So you know...the exact opposite of checking out.

This I'll agree with, but has nothing to do with playoff.

Coaches have been allowed to bail on these kids before bowls for years, I got no problem with a kid passing up a meaningless bowl to get ready for NFL

Yeah, but they should have won the Heisman over Henry.

How meaningful were the non bcs bowls before the playoff? I don't think anyone cared about them then either, nothing to do with the playoffs
