Christian McCaffrey sitting out bowl game
First Leonard Fournette, now Christian McCaffrey. I suspect other players will follow suit. Unless your team is in the playoffs, the bowl games are becoming tantamount to a spring Jamboree game. The only real benefit is looking at upcoming underclassmen, working with new coaches, and getting film on guys.

The playoff has made bowls obsolete.

This is bad for college football.

One is hurt, would not be effective in the bowl game, with a lingering injury and needs to rest to heal. The other is not hurt and is leaving the team to prepare for the draft.
They aren't the same situation.

Those that sit out and aren't injured shouldn't get bowl gifts or be allowed to attend with the team.

I suspect that if LSU was in the playoff, Fournette would play.

"Sorry buddy, you don't get an Xbox and a shitty fossil watch, bet that makes you think twice about focusing on your NFL millions now doesn't it?"

Sure. I bet McCaffrey has chapped lips or something.

Fournette checked out after the Bama game.

It is pretty dry in Palo Alto.

As they should. Why risk getting injured in a bowl game that nobody will remember next year?

Needs to happen. No standing on the sideline either. It's the principle of the matter.

Don't forget that awesome all-expenses-paid trip to El Paso!

Will bama fans break out the pitch forks over this news like they did with LF?

It's a selfish, bitch move but it's not totally bad for the teams. May hurt them for the bowl game but gets the next man up some valuable experience.

Well last i checked, he doesn't play in the sec

The Non-Championship Bowl games were just as meaningless in the BCS era. The standard is now being set for top draft picks to sit out and eventually these bowls will be scrimmages/exhibitions. Will be even worse if the playoff expanded to 8.
Don't know how you put the toothpaste back in the tube unless you hold off on awarding postseason awards like the Heisman until January but that would be silly.

Jaylon Smith comes to mind in these situations. Top ten money is much better than getting hurt and falling into the second or third round.
