Plus, Marquette is in a gutted Big East Conference which is losing it identity
After they add VCU, Saint Joseph's, UMass, Saint Louis, Wichita, and Dayton in the next few seasons they'll be legit.

lmao Cuonzo is so butthurt.
Sorry the fans didn't congratulate you for your shitty arse coaching performance the last 2.5 years.
Hope you ride those Mercer and UMass wins all the way to Milwaukee.

Yeah he got you to the Sweet 16 this year. What a shitty arse coach.

3 of our last 4 coaches have made at least the Sweet 16. Nothing special.
Certainly one fluke run doesn't excuse what happened the last two years.

Do you know what he is going to make at VT? He was very well paid at Marquette.
Seven year $18.2 million contract, first years salary is $2.3 million, increasing $100,000 per year thereafter.

IOW, VT payed more for Williams than Auburn payed for Bruce Pearl.

Buzz Williams was also making a lot more money than Bruce Pearl at his previous job.

If he does leave, and half the roster decides to transfer then it will be just what we deserve after the way the stupid part of our fan base treated him. I won't blame him if he leaves, serves us right. Hopefully our retarded fans that signed the petition will go cheer for Auburn

Pearl did a very poor job here during his final 3 seasons.
ETA: The 2007-08 VOLS that went 31-5 and lost in the Sweet 16 were 10x better than the team that made the Elite 8.

I can see the similarities honestly.
Pearl did a very, very poor job from 2008-11 outside of a 2 month stretch that led to an elite 8 in 2010.
Very similar to Cuonzo. Pearl was at least making the tourney every year and recruiting well though while underperforming.

Pearl isn't a very good in-game coach.

Williams took a paycut to go to VT. I would say that he wanted out of Marquette.

Pearl does a good job when he can speed the opponent up. Wasn't working in March for him though so he went to a half-court game. He really struggled for the most part after that. Inability to recruit a point guard probably played in to it, but Tennessee's 2011 half court "flex" offense was about as brutal as I've seen at this level.

i got bitched at last night for saying Michigan ain't Mercer or UMass... now the vols are doing it too...

He's better than most of the current SEC coaches, when it comes in game situations.... Donavon and Stallings may be the best... the entire SEC West teams coaches suck at actually coaching (yes, i know the league isn't split anymore). Calipari is a decent in game coach.

Pearl is elite when it comes to inbounds plays and inbounds defense. Decent enough at drawing up plays.
His halfcourt offense is awful though.

it seems like no one has a good half court offense anymore... with the few exceptions like Michigan and UF... Wisconsin's half court offense has been very good in the tourney.
Pearl wants to run and play pressure defense, leading to easy points... i'm excited to see it... even if it means we're not a great half court team... we'll (hopefully) burn that bridge when we get there.

So sad. Couldn't get their first option.

This is what Pearl did at Tennessee his first 3 years. Changed his mind after flaming out in sweet 16 twice. Decided that style couldn't win in March.

Do any of you Vol fans believe that Tennessee would have hired Pearl back? I just don't believe that they would have if he was available . JMO
