Rule being tabled per twitter. Gus has spoken.
The NCAA is tabling the proposal to change the illegal man downfield rule from 3-yds to 1-yd LINK

It makes me wonder if they actually had no intent on changing the rule, but wanted to be the point that they are going to be strict about it from now on.

what you said- just enforce it.
that article that was linked made me laugh- still attempted to use attendance as a reasoning and i'm still rolling my eyes at it.

If the damn officials aren't capable, mentally or physically of doing their damn jobs then they need to be replaced.
If they threw this smoke out to the public just to gauge interest/opposition then people in charge of officiating are weaker than I imagined.

Just like Malzahn said in the first place.
Welcome to the Gus Bus!

Good for Gus, I guess, but from what I read it was more about apathy among coaches.

Again the Gus rule would not effect the 44 put on Bama last year...
It sure helped them still a win the year before that .

The commitee may have gotten what they wanted. 1 yd is very difficult , it basically allows for no mistakes on the o-line. You would have a lot of teams penalized, not just the run-pass offenses. But they got those coaches all riled up , begging for the officials to enforce the current rule, which they evidently realize it's being taken advantage of. So now there is no excuse for Gus to Jump up and down and complain , when the officials are doing what he asked ; enforce the rule.
On a side note, I wonder if they would have a problem with, making ineligible receiver downfield challengable. Just in case the refs miss it. Just trying to enforce the rule, since they all claim they don't break it.

So you're taking credit for being like 4 years late to the party?

No but it was a long thread about this rule not being called correctly
