He's faced Bama once as a starter. He was 27/48 for 290 yards. That's a 56% completion rate and a 6 yard per attempt rate. He also threw three interceptions.

Dak is a lot better QB than he was last year.

So he had almost 400 yards of offense against us last year but his playing style doesn't give us problems?

I was thinking the same thing. He made mistakes last year, but he moved the ball and had us in a position to take the lead in the 4th quarter in spite of:

1) being on the road
2) running game not effective
3) back to what I said in the other thread, field position the first 10 times we had the ball was:
- MSU 16
- MSU 5
- MSU 21
- MSU 10
- MSU 18
- MSU 12
- MSU 25
- MSU 19
- MSU 5
- MSU 20
Couple that field position with the fact our punters averaged 34.4 yards per punt, while Bama's average was 45.6 with 5 inside the 20.

To me the field position is the key. If we've got decent field position, Dak will have the opportunity to be successful. If we don't then history has shown Mullen will be conservative and we'll have a long night.

I think the MSU offense matches up well against the Bama defense. We don't run the ball well this year so won't be as bullheaded in trying to establish that.

Hopefully the Oline can give Dak at least a bit of time.

The bigger issue is on the defensive side of the ball. I was really impressed with Bama just lining up and running straight at LSU. LSU never seemed to adjust. I'm not sure if we can handle a straight up power run game like that.

The only receiver that is concerning is the bama freshman (riddley?), otherwise the bama passing attack is pretty limited.

Guys like you are why I rarely go to the Bama board. So he had almost 400 yards of offense against us last year but his playing style doesn't give us problems?

Well, I can understand why you wouldn't like to discuss things with someone who might actually bother to refute your blanket, cliche statement with real, verifiable facts.

No, he actually gave Bama fewer problems than pretty much any other dual threat quarterback they faced last year.

Josh Dobbs (playing in his first game of the season)? 6 ypa (same as Dak), 3.9 ypc (better than Dak).

Nick Marshall? 10.6 ypa (better than Dak), 3.8 ypc (better than Dak).

Cardell Jones? 6.9 ypa (better than Dak, 2.5 ypc (worse than Dak)

The only "dual threat" QB with worse numbers than Dak against Bama's 2014 was Anthony Jennings and Bama's 2014 defense sucked balls - particularly in the secondary.

And he's facing a much better defense. I suspect that combination will end up being a wash and the game will be much like last season. Respectable but not really in doubt in the end.

We have a better interior defense than LSU. Chris Jones has some draft stock ahead of him Saturday night if he wants it. Our linebackers are more efficient under Diaz' scheme as well.

The most likely outcome.... except Dak may not throw three interceptions in State's red zone. That alone could cause a different outcome.

Lukcy for us, Bama's defense is too.

Yep, if I were still a betting man I'd jump all over MSU and take the points. Big home win followed by a tough road game is $$ in the bank. I do think Bama wins it, but it won't look like the LSU and UGA games.

What was that Danielson was saying about your nose guards Saturday night? Something along the lines of sometimes they don't even play against passing teams? I just wasn't familiar with what he was talking about, and not sure if that's a fact or if he was just running off at the mouth. I guess that's the downside of going to games, hard to watch the others and keep up.
He was exactly right (he usually is). Nose guards aren't generally pass rushers. Teams replace them, and occasionally a linebacker with additional DBs to defense passing teams.
