That must be how he had so many freak show interceptions.

Any small notion that Claiborne was even in the same class as Dre, let alone be drafted higher, and bama fans went apeshit.

I think Simon is a nice player and agree he is your best cover guy, but I think he will be a second or third rounder and I know he will not be the first DB picked in the draft. He isn't going to win the Thorpe either.

He had more pass breakups than Mo Claiborne last year as a sophomore

Our dline will be nasty. It's almost unfair to have this much talent on the dline. Lavat Edwards is a hell of a player and he is a backup.

link, or bullshite. I don't remember any regular Bama posters that claimed that Claiborne was not in the same league as Dre before the 2011 season.

Pretty solid analysis from the OP. Coupled with the schedule situation, LSU could run the table again.

What remains to be seen is chemistry. It doesn't get talked about enough IMO. It is freaking hard to win every game that you play. LSU was a great team last year, and couldn't win all their games. Neither could Bama.

Simon in 13 games had 10 passes broken up tying him for 55th in the country. That is hardly dominant. Hell, Amerson had more interceptions than that (13).

This is an effect of playing time. As I understand it, Simon graded out better than any of the others, including Mo and TM. And at 6'3 he can cover the big receivers.

i dont think he will be the first db picked either, but I could see him in the late first early second with a solid year and his measurables. Possibly 3-4 corner taken off the board

Yeah he is a very raw player with freakish ability..lots of plays that he gave up were simply mental errors..he is tough to beat deep though

I think ya'll will miss Mathieu more than you think. He was a firestarter. He ignited your team in the Ark and GA games with his returns, and it was still a game with Oregon when he stripped it and scored. He just had a knack for the game changing play. He helped a sluggish team regain their intensity.

I liked this thread better last year when it was titled :

"LSU defense a question mark; Patrick Peterson cannot be replaced,d line is completely unproven, Oregon will expose you".

He will definitely be drafted. Not many corners with his length and athleticism. However, there are some outstanding corners coming out this year.

I think he falls to the second round. He is still an elite athlete, just not the number 6 pick.

I don't think he is as physical as Dre Kirkpatrick. I think he is probably the 3-5 CB taken.

Haha you don't know that! Do you have a crystal ball? Simon dropped so many balls last year. He has been working with the recievers. Just wait gump.

That dude is so cottony soft, he's going to soil himself when he feels the wood the NFL is bringing. My lord, he laid down on the field and cried when little ole Mathieu put that light little forearm shiver across his jaw. Your credibility guage just hit E.

I don't have a crystal ball. Simon was not on any of the coaches' All-SEC teams. Banks and Mathieu were first team. Milliner third team.

He is not listed as a 2013 NFL draft prospect by CBS, Waltercamp, NFL draft Geek, or NFL.com. Milliner is #4 rated cb prospect, Amerson #1, Banks #3.

Kevin Minter is rated the 5th best ILB, C.J. Mosely #2. Eric Reid is the #1 rated safety, Lester rated #3 safety.

Who freakin cares where Simon was on pre-season teams? Is that all you got??
You're gumpin hard if you just automatically assume Simon is not a 1st rounder based off that. the guy is 6'4" and went toe to toe with Julio as a freshman. had a lot of balls thrown his way last yr in avoidance of Claiborne and stepped up all yr long. But whatever makes you feel better.. Gump...

that's great. Last year LSU had 1--ONE--player listed among ESPN's preseason top 25 players in the SEC. Simon will rocket up draft lists now that he will not be overshadowed by Heisman finalists and top 6 picks.

And I agree that TM will be missed more than some want to admit, but the offense should pick up some of that slack and not have to rely on those sparks he provided on ST's.

Simon dropped 7 interceptions. Most hit him in the hands. He has speed, but his length gives him a huge edge in coverage. His arm's wing spread allow him to make up time it he gets beat off the line.
