Yes. So, if he was given a new contract in March, he clearly wasn't "gone" in February. In fact, he wasn't gone until September when Orgeron fired him the day he became interim HC.

He will end up at Bama as a payback for steering Devonta Smith to Bama.

FWIW, I was listening to Hannigrif and Ott on BTR ESPN radio when this announcement was released. There was not a huge amount of surprise in this move by them because when Orgeron was hired permanent and he fired Peveto the rumor mill then was that Craig and Jaluke were on shaky ground.

They did not believe that Jaluke was moved off field for the Etienne loss to Clemson but instead for the level of performance and approach to recruiting.

Also said that both of these moves were likely due to general organization and energy in the recruiting process and not specifically due to any player loss yesterday. Oddly, they mentioned the issue of LSU slow playing a lot of home state talent that did not even get offers.

These decisions were made a while ago. Craig & O did not gel well and Craig was termed "a lazy and unorganized recruiter" while Juluke was said to be out of his realm.

I have never once heard Craig termed that

So the more likely scenario, LSU floated him a contract offer prior to signing day that was really bad. He either threatens to walk or floats a rumor he's walking on signing day and LSU backpedals and gives him a better contract than their original offer.

Smokin' Joe Alleva for the win.....

It sounds like Craig has a hard time working well with others. Because he and Gus did not gel well even though Craig was termed a "kiss arse recruiter" at AU.

If he was lazy and unorganized, it was only at LSU.

I think Craig did a better job recruiting kids to his home state and alma mater than he did to LSU. He really wanted to work with Miles anyway and that is why he left AU. I also think O required a huge amount of effort from these two guys and they just didn't live up to the expectations. WR/RB recruiting was not great either. I'm pretty sure O already has coaches in mind that are a better fit for him and the Offense he wants to implement. I'm excited to see who he has in mind...

This. FSU loved him recruiting also, he has been known as a top recruiter since before his Auburn days.

While recruiting does take effort, some of it is just being a born salesman and the top recruiters are just that. They can sell ice to an eskimo as the saying goes, that doesn't take a lot of effort. I have a hard time believing that Craig was fired because of his recruiting.

Recruiting the positions they coach rarely goes hand in hand. Guys generally have recruiting "areas" and they recruit the best players in that area. So if LSU didn't land top flight WR class that is rarely on the WR coach unless he missed a lot of WRs in his core area.

No integrity move. Some of these kids went to LSU because of Craig, like Narcisse

I agree. He is especially good in the South Alabama/North Florida Area.

If Florida hires him as RB coach,(I think that is the opening there) him and Randy Shannon would be an awesome recruiting team. Shannon seems to be very good in the Miami area.

Because we know for sure they lied to all the recruits. All these opinions are definitely factual.

Half wit.

Bama fans should stfu. Yalls staff just pulled a kids scholarship on signing day.

Explain the point of keeping him one day after NSD instead of firing him one day before............since the recruits all knew?

I think it was the coordinating end of recruiting that left much to be desired, being of little use in the film room probably wasn't helping either
