From Gatorzone.com:

Sophomore right-hander Logan Shore (7-6, 2.79) will face Rattler junior left-hander Ricky Page (2-0, 1.32) in Friday’s nightcap.

I'm not so sure it's going to matter who LSU throws in their regional, but to throw your #3 first is a little too risky for my taste.

It's not risky at all, we have one of the worst 4 seeds in the tournament (losing record). They cant pitch or hit. We have reliable 3rd options to take them out and save our 2 most important guys for the games that they will matter in.

It would be risky to throw one of our top 2 guys against the worst team in possibly the tournament and not have them available against UNCW or Tulane.

LSU is throwing down in Game 1, won't be Lange or Poche.
Every year is different though, depends on that first round matchup, sometimes that team might have a really good #1 that could burn you.
Generally save ace for the 2nd game.

We're throwing Cartwright. Man that's WAY down the list of our quality of arms. Hope it doesnt bite us.

He was very bad when he got the start against UH in the winner take all game.

But more importantly he's been pretty bad all year this year (outside the first 10 games of the season). I doubt he pitches more than a couple of innings unless he's just cruising.

The only reason I can justify starting Cartwright is he is a strike thrower and bullpen folks recently have had problems hitting the strike zone. Mainieri probably thinks ride him for 3-5 innings then go to pen because Lehigh cant hit their way to many runs.

Yeah but that's really irrelevant

Its a different mentality. A&M's best reliever got shelled in his first start in the SECT. I'm not saying it makes a big difference every time, but it is different. Same for starters who move to the pen.

I'm not predicting doom ansd gloom or anything, but I think its a least a little relevant.

It really isnt. You are trying to make something out of nothing. He's started before and isnt expected to go more than 2-3 innings.

Talent wise? Yup, but Ross outpreformed him that season. 12 wins, 1 no no, and the same ERA.

Unless the stats I saw were wrong (via thebaseballcube) -- Wacha was 9-1 w/ 2.06, Stripling was 10-4 w/ 3.04 (2012)

My bad. I was thinking their last year was 2011. But that was Stilson's last year.

Yeah, Ross definitely performed better the year before.
