Not good if he was out for 5 minutes, just praying there is no long term damage.

Hate it for the kid, he was a good one... hoping he sticks around to get his degree.

That really sucks!

We had a really good pitcher's career end this year due to migraines.

Its got to suck to have the talent but your health won't hold up. At least he will get his education.

Hate to hear that, hopefully he won't have lingering effects down the road.

Pulling for the guy. I know the Tiger family will take care of him like they should

I'm sure they'll let him keep the scholly and let him be a grad assistant. And yeah, if he suffered this bad of a concussion in a non contact practice than it would be for the best that he quits. This isn't first one either.

I think that's what ends up happening.

Seeing what a lot of ex-NFL guys and old boxers are looking like these days because of concussions, I'd probably call it quits after 2 or 3 of them even if the doctors cleared me. That shite isn't something to take lightly.

No doubt.. now that they are tracing nervous system ailments like Parkinson's, and even worse, ALS, to head injuries, it's definitely in his best interest to hang up the old cleats.

They have put so much time and research into improving helmets, and have made great progress in recent years. The Revolution helmet was supposed to prevent concussions. It has helped reduce concussions, but the downside is that the face masks can't be clipped off like the old helmets, which is dangerous in the event of a c spine injury or if they stop breathing, and they don't completely protect from concussions. They are head and shoulders above the old helmets though.

The sad thing is, these injuries cannot be prevented. Hopefully one day they will come up with the right formula and create a helmet that can completely prevent concussions.

Nowadays, team training staffs are much better equipped to recognize and diagnose concussions than in years' past. Before this was a hot issue, I'd have to imagine that many, if not most, concussions went unreported and untreated.

Exactly. New concussion guidelines have come out in recent years that require a lot more testing and time before they are returned to activity. There is also baseline EEG testing that is being done that can be used after a concussion to know exactly how the concussion affected the brain.

Trainers work their asses off to prevent concussions. Thanks to modern technology, there are now tools to help them and doctors assess the damage. Even after a mild concussion, a player must be asymptomatic for at least a week before they can do any type of activity.

They even recommend no computer, video games, reading, etc for a week after a concussion so the brain can "rest".

It is also the reason why I hit the roof when idiots say that the new helmet rule is stupid. That rule was made for a reason.

They just need to find a way to punish the players that rip each others helmets and the coaches that allow their players to do it.

I suffered through 3 concisions in high school, the last one was a black out. I can definitely feel the cognitive effects, attention span dropped, "depressed".. I wish the kid the best of luck. The brain is more delicate than some like to believe. Football isn't everything, hopefully he can lead a normal life.

I had 2 myself - the second one, also resulted in a blackout for about a minute. I don't remember about 10 seconds before the hit, and woke up having no idea I was in a football game.
