What's the story behind this hire? Watched the Duke lacrosse 30 for 30 last night and this guy just seems suspect. Was he the main candidate for the job? Did he have some sort of connection?

They thought he was Sam Waterston when he walked in for the interview. And they were so surprised when he didn't try to sell them Robot Insurance, they hired him on the spot.

You know, Robots eat old people's medicine for fuel.

Because nobody at LSU has any signs of a brain whatsoever. That's the only option i have as to why he was hired.

How do you get this take away after watching the Duke Lacrosse 30for30?

He forced the team to forfeit two games, promises that will be the extent of the punishment handed down (which I guess is one way to take a hard line against having drinking and strippers at your house?), and then turns around and forces a winning head coach to resign (who literally did nothing wrong in that whole clusterfrick) while the University President cancels the rest of the season. Not because of any evidence that ever came out to suggest there was some sort of team-wide cover up but because he caved to pressure from the media to do something to cover his own arse. In other words, he totally failed to be an advocate for the student athletes he was supposed to be looking out for when there was never any indication that anything wrong had actually happened. Also left the University and Athletic Association open to the eventual lawsuits being brought against them.

Are you expecting an informed answer?

Yes, actually I have no clue who the previous AD was or how he had left things and who was being considered during the search. I'm legitimately curious why Alleva got hired over anyone else

That's what I'd thought but couldn't remember if he was just baseball or if he was also AD. So did he just retire or was he forced out?

Skip has been successful wherever he went, never forced out of anything, always his terms LEGEND

Not true, skip was forced out, albeit with a golden handshake because of his shady handling of his baseball clinic as AD!

He was clearly hired because of his remarkable ability to navigate and diffuse volatile situations for the betterment of the university as a whole.

Well Duke more national titles in his 10 years there than any other. He skyrocketed fundraising, made some nice hires (including Cutcliffe), and put up some nice facilities.

The Duke scandal is a blakc eye to his resume, but I look at the situation similar to the UVA rape situation. just some human mistakes and the fact the media applies so much presure

He's fricked up our previous 2 men's basketball hires, but he's also made some nice hires and built some fantastic facilities. He's not great, but I wouldn't trade him over a good bit of AD's. He's also head of the special olympics in Lafayette, which is why I laugh when people insist he's some tPOS

Not even remotely similar. In the Duke situation, it was enabled by a district attorney basically violating the law to get himself reelected. The UVA situation ended up with a magazine committing libel to push an agenda.

Frankly I was too young during the scandal to understand the details, but I will safely assume what happened shouldn't strictly fall on Alleva's lap. 99% of AD"s will neve have to endure anything like that

The UVA story also had little, if anything, to do with the athletic department, but rather with the Greek System.

The only thing both stories have in common is that the incident was perpetuated by false testimony of an alleged victim.
