The parallel I'm making between the two is that UVA hires elite administrators to run its university. I don't think the scandal indicates their administration is inept, just like I don't think Alleva is remotely as dumb as our fanbase (which is collectively pretty stupid) thinks he is.

I mean Penn State and Tennessee went after him since he's been here. Basically I'd be okay with him leaving as long as a big time hire is in place. otherwise LSU could definitely downgrade

Was Alleva's alias Richard Brodhead?

Not exactly great judges of AD quality, those two

Go edit Wikipedia then. It says Alleva pushed the coach to resign

Same exact reason Auburn hired Gene Chizik as HC.

(He was good at taking orders, and fine with appearing to be in charge while knowing he is a puppet)

He had a good plan for the facilities that Bertman had let run down, and he could raise $$$ better than televangelicalist.

That's what I'd thought but couldn't remember if he was just baseball or if he was also AD. So did he just retire or was he forced out?

Skip Bertman could murder the governor on live tv, rape Ms Louisiana on live tv, and eat a tiger steak dinner and LSU fans would still love him. Do you really think he would have been forced out after LSU won 2 football national championships and mens bball had a final four appearance during his tenure as AD? He retired on his own.

There are many theories.

One is that he is an Alabama mole.

This is another theory:

Because nobody at LSU has any signs of a brain whatsoever. That's the only option i have as to why he was hired

The other theory that seems to be plausible is, frick LSU.

Either way, they should have fired Joe Allegra two years ago.

Some people are dumb as shite in criticizing him, but it shouldn't cover up that he's horrible at handling PR.

The answer for the OP and the reason even intelligent people criticize him is the same, he's a bean counter. LSU athletics fundraising has done very well since he was hired. He's very good at getting his teams into lucrative neutral site games and navigated the SEC's media money boom very well. Not much of a stretch to say a lot of it fell in his lap, but it's on his resume nonetheless.

Fans don't like him because a lot of his policies that make the university money do so at their expense, and there are too many to name. I and others don't like him because he's atrocious at dealing with the media and mitigating negative press. Typically, when a smart PR firm would do such and such in a situation, Joe can be counted on to do the opposite and make LSU look inept. He's silent when he needs to speak, and runs his mouth when he shouldn't.

This answers part of your question: We had a field of six, according to this NOLA TP article from the time.

LINK

1. Duke AD Joe Alleva
2. FSU AD Dave Hart, Jr.
3. LSU Sr Assoc AD Verge Ausberry
4. FAU AD Craig Angelos
5. UK Dep. AD Rob Mullens
6. LSU Sr. Assoc AD Herb Vincent

We were never going to hire someone without AD experience (even though the two inside guys are great people), so that eliminated Ausberry, Vincent, and Mullens.

I think it must have come down to Alleva, Hart, and Angelos. I guess Alleva probably had the best pitch of the three of them. Hart, of course, had his own difficulties at FSU. Angelos moved on to USF in 2012.
