He doesn't play for a coach and staff that can develop offensive talent at all. Kid ended his career when he signed with Les and LSU.
Steven Ridley begs you to please go troll somewhere else.

LSU fans, why did Russell Shepard not pan out?
He was not successful as a wildcat QB because:
1) His arm is not strong enough to play QB in the SEC and
2) He is a one-cut-and-go runner in the SEC (he can't weave through defenses like he did in HS)
He then got moved to WR. He took a full year to catch on (2010), and by the next year we had younger guys coming in who were just naturally better at receiver (e.g. Beckham, Jr.).
In retrospect, Shep was most effective as a slot back and running sweep or jet plays to the sidelines.

I am almost positive that he threw a couple of passes late in a blowout game.

If Shepard had gone to Oregon, he would easily have been an all-american.

I just saw an article that lists him as a senior and wondered why he never got going. Just curious as UF has had plenty of superstars that never reached their potential for one reason or another. I always thought RS would be a dynamic player.
Can't throw or catch. Lot of similarities in talent level and disappointment with him and Debose.

And then never start in the NFL.

He didn't.
I am just stunned Les couldn't give him a SINGLE WR pass-option play or Wildcat pass play during his entire career

doing what?
he cannot catch
he cannot break tackles
he prolly runs a low 4.5 or high 4.4
he's not elusive
he cannot pass the football
What's he gonna do? run for 150 yards on jet sweeps and end arounds every game?

yea, most LSU fans are too.
The jump pass vs UF with Magee 2 weeks ago could have easily been RS and would have been less obvious something was up because RS lines up in the backfield more than Magee.
We should have been able to use him a little better, but the question is, how much are gonna try to force plays to a guy that's simply a marginal player?

Did not take steroids and fill out like Percy Harvin
No truthfully, his body just has never matured to a point where he could take the load like a Harvin type back. They were probably both the same coming out of high school. One got bigger and the other didn't. I think it has very little to do with scheme...personally. I think the Debose comparison is a good one. You just never know what the kids are going to do from 18 to 22.

Why did RS not get a look at CB or S if it was obvious he wasn't great at WR?

Should have tried him at DB from day 1.
would have gotten less production out of him at DB. Never woulda seen the field at DBU, maybe ole miss or UK.

Shep may have made a decent spread QB with his legs and field vision. In a weaker defensive league and a different offensive system, he may have made a good college QB.

Shep (6'1", 195) is bigger than Harvin is now (5'11", 185). Harvin is a little shorter and more powerful. Maybe that is what you really mean?
This idea that Shep is smaller than Harvin is exactly wrong, though.

because LSU is DBU
who was he gonna beat out? Ron Brooks was a 3rd/4th round DB at never started at LSU.

Because the defensive backfield was pretty stocked with guys like Patrick Peterson, Mo Claiborne, Eric Reid, Brandon Taylor, and Tyrann Mathieu.
Shep wouldn't have even sniffed the field at DB.
