You should win your conference to get into the championship game, but the NCAA is too much of a pussy to make that a requirement.
Although this circumstance is a little different. LSU went undefeated in the regular season, beat Bama in their own stadium, won a conference championship game against UGA in the Georgia Dome and got rewarded with Bama again. It is what it is. The situations were a little different though. LSU choked in the Dome. The rest is history.

I hope LSU makes it in the final 4 and Alabama for one reason or another doesn't.
