So you think the position coaches are more important than the coordinator? Interesting

They teach the every day technique stuff. The DC puts together a game plan but it's still the players that have to make plays.

I see you think the DC is responsible for coaching up all of the defensive players.....

So, you have no idea how any of this actually works.....Got it. Thanks for clearing that up.

Kind of. He calls plays. He's no more responsible for a DB staying with a WR than Sumlin is for Speedy Noil running a good route and beating his man. That's talent and coaching from his position coach.

It's just interesting because typically you move from position coach to coordinator and they get paid more. You probs could have just hired Steele as LB coach and paid him a lot less

Why didn't Harris start last year?

You're like an ex girlfriend I had. She never focused on the meat of an argument. Instead she would choose one word or phrase and pick that apart to distract from the real issue.

The real issue is you want a victory over LSU so bad you can taste it. Now that you think you won something by hiring Chavis you'll say anything to defend that position until you actually have real concrete evidence.

It's understandable. You come into the conference have have marginal success but you can't beat your old rivals. The petulant child routine is getting old, though.

And remember, according to one of your players, Chavis did well at LSU with much lesser quality players than what he will have THIS year at A&M. Where is he buying that good stuff he is smoking?

Well he's not washed up right now, he'll be washed up after his defense sucks this upcoming season when he doesn't have the talent, assistants, home field advantage, recruiting, or TOP/Turnover Margin in place to make him look good

They are responsible for calling play on gameday. It's a greater responsibility. I'm just telling you that calling a good game gets a lot harder when you don't have the right talent on the field. That talent has to have the proper fundamentals. LSU's position coaches are some of the best in the country.

So if the defense struggles, Steele won't get blame right? Since Chavis doesn't get credit for the defense being good?

You've already made it clear that you believe the DC is personally responsible for coaching up every single player on the defense.

At this point, your opinion means dick.

Chavis never did. It's been a huge upgrade seeing Steele work with Raymond and Orgeron with the players instead of nestled in a corner of the field working with the LBs. He (Chavis) ran some basic defensive drills (Tiger Attack for instance) but that's really it.

So why aren't LSU fans more pissed at the QB coach?

Chavis gets credit for playcalling, scheme, and LB performance. If the DL is making plays, Orgeron will get credit. If the DBs have sound coverage, Raymond will get credit.

At the end of the day, it doesn't all come down to the DC. The DC has the final say on what the defense does, but a lot of the planning and scheming is a combined effort.

Because it isn't all the QB's fault. Our WRs played worse than the QB (IMO) and that's why we let Henry leave and hired Ball to develop the young talent we have there.

It is amazing that aTm fans aren't more arrogant and entitled after all of the success they have had on the football field in their history

What y'all are arguing...... is like Morgan Freemans private acting coach claiming he deserves to receive the best picture oscar instead of the director

Players have raw ability and talent

Position coaches help them fine tune that talent and refine the use of it

DC tells the position coaches HOW and WHERE to utilize the players in the game to achieve success

The Pats QB coach should have been the one carried off the field at Super Bowl all those years, not Belichick

This is how it all works.

1. Recruiting
2. Development
3. Gameplan
4. Scheme
5. Implementation
6. Gameplay
7. Adjustments

All stages of defensive success require a combined effort among the coaching staff. Chavis didn't contribute to all of those stages as much as he could have. Same for Brick Haley.

Correct

Not exactly. If you actually watch the game, you will see each unit make checks and reads before each play. The position coaches are usually responsible for preparing them to make these adjustments.

It's the reason each unit has it's own meeting and film sessions.
