I have to think that is more what is really going on. He is not analyzing game film. Probably just getting a sense of what is going on and trying to be helpful after the worst home LSU has had in some time.

But he's really not that cheap - he's making $3.5M per year plus the buyout. He makes more than Muschamp, Stoops, Odom, and Mason, all of whom (other than maybe Odom) have a better resume. Those guys have all at least been defensive coordinators.
Not to mention we've got two of the highest paid coordinators in football on the payroll.

I would have, at MOST, given him a 1 yr deal with no buyout. I know this doesn’t help recruiting but what they did instead will set them back a decade instead of one recruiting class.

Exactly. And there was all the talk in 2015 about FKing and Jindal making Alleva keep Miles.
Now, that could've been Bc Miles had the absurd contract that Alleva gave him, so Alleva isn't off the hook, but it seems clear Alleva isn't calling all the shots and very well may have been forced to hire O.
