LSU should claim 1908, 1935, and 1936. We were in the SEC the last two years and were recognized as National Champions.

1908 was just a ridiculous team for the time period and has every right to claim the title.

That would give us 6. There is another out there in 1961 or something, but that requires an Ole Miss move to claim that one.

I am happy with 6. It isn't going too far and a case can be made for all 6 of them. Leave it at that and move forward.

LSU is claiming a national title for a year that the AP awarded it to Minnesota. Actually put it on plaques at the stadium.

wut?

We mention that we finished runner up in the AP to Minnesota on the plaque.

Plaque is titled "1936 SEC CHAMPIONS". Mentions in passing that we were recognized as champs in one poll.

If Auburn did something similar for their undefeated 2004 team with a monument entitled "2004 SEC CHAMPIONS", I wouldn't bat an eye.

Go ahead and bookmark this though.

I'll confess I hadn't really bothered to look up either year's national title claim.

NCAA lists A&M's title claim from 1919 and 1939.

1919 as you say was a team that wasn't even scored upon.

Not sure why NCAA doesn't list A&M for 1927.

In all seriousness, A&M was lampooned over the conference title claims for 1997 and 2010. I know you won't be defending those claims.

The monuments LSU recently erected are actually for conference titles. The national titles that we truly claim (not as comments in passing on a conference title monument) are all widely accepted by either the AP or BCS.

LSU has officially acknowledged that they won a national championship in 1935 and 36.

Odd that you would claim 1936, since it's easily as bogus as UA's 1941.

Do you claim the 1908 championship that you actually earned?

Nope.

LSU just reported what happened that year like an old movie newsreel.

We made no such proclamation such as "1936 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS".

I know you can figure out the difference if you try.

LSU finished #2 in the 1936 final AP poll.

Bama finished #20 in the 1941 final AP poll.

Also, show me where we have ever printed anywhere "1936 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS" or included 1936 on a flag or stadium cup listing out the years we claim national titles for.

Jeez, I thought we were bad. Both years you're claiming now had Sugar Bowl losses? Congrats on backing your way in to #5 and #6, I guess.

What do #2 and #20 have in common, other than the number 2?

Neither are #1, which is the criteria for a national championship.

You call that sentence on a monument a real "claim"?

I guess we should have added this disclaimer instead:
"Though recognized for a national title by some bullshite poll, the university adamantly refuses to acknowledge this poll's existence or give any hint that we would dare to suggest we might in any way claim a national title for this year."

We aren't shouting "NATIONAL CHAMPS" from the hilltops for 1936. Just mentioning that some poll honored us and left it at that.

Didn't even put "#2 NATIONALLY" on top of the monument.

It's OK bro, just own it. You don't have to be proud of the fact that your school is claiming questionable NCs. Hell, we aren't proud of the '41 claim, but just own it.

Coming from a gump to one of the only fanbases we possibly have room to talk about it to. The Backdoor Kings of Baton Rouge.

This. I haven't looked at 1935 or 1936, but 1908 is about as legitimate of a MNC as you can claim from that time period.
