Former Alabama quarterback Star Jackson has elected to transfer to Georgia State for the final three years of his collegiate career, Errick Lowe, Jackson's coach at Lake Worth (Fla.) High School, confirmed today to the Press-Register.

Jackson spent the weekend looking for an apartment in Atlanta and will enroll in summer school at GSU, according to Lowe.

"He got his release (from Alabama) and everything," Lowe said.

Jackson asked for a release on his scholarship a few weeks ago. His departure was confirmed by Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban.

Jackson had a clear tie to the Atlanta school, since Georgia State's defensive backs coach is Anthony Midget, who was formerly on the Lake Worth staff during Jackson's prep career.

Since Georgia State is not currently an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision team, Jackson would be eligible to play immediately.

"Nothing is going to be handed to him," Lowe said. "He's going to have to go in there and work his butt off. But if he works hard, he'll get a chance to play right away."

A new program directed by former Crimson Tide coach Bill Curry, Georgia State will visit Alabama during the 2010 season in a game currently scheduled for Nov. 20 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Jackson, a former Super 11 quarterback recruit, saw action in five games last season as a redshirt freshman for Alabama, completing 13 of 18 throws for 116 yards.

Only 1 QB can play at a time and he got passed up by McCarron about halfway through last season. The only way he was ever gonna play was if he stayed ahead of Simms for 2011 and McCarron got hurt. Not really surprising.

I hate the fact that he may actually start against us this year. He is a good kid and I realize he wants to play football but I don't want to see him have to play against his former teamates.

You can bet that Jackson knows of the beating he'll take from our defense. Hope he succeeds there and stay's healthy. I wonder how many other teams they play on or near the level of a top five SEC school?

I know there is a 0% chance of it happening but the irony of him beating Bama would be hilarious.

Wonder if he'll play WR there. Pretty sure the big kid from Henry County will start at QB if he's good to go.

I doubt he will now. Surely Star will be able to beat him out right?

Star wasn't "cut." Saban tried to convince him to stay. He wasn't going to play QB anytime soon and that's why he left. He could have switched positions and tried to get on the field that way but he chose not to.

do you really think he would have gotten on the field at another position? That may work at another school but not Alabama.

The kid from Henry County is pretty good, really big kid (like 6'5 250). I don't know if Star Jackson has the ability to beat him out in just a month of fall practice. Spring is obviously already over. Star probably isn't any better of a QB than he is, he's really just an athlete.

I know he struggled at Alabama but wow.. I mean obviously Ga.state is nowhere near Alabama's caliber.

The Henry Co. kid got a late offer from Boston College but decided to stay home in ATL. He's pretty good, threw for 3,200 yards and 41 TD his junior year. He just had a bit of an attitude problem and didn't get many looks from big schools. My friends dad coached him (And all the recent kids at Henry County, which BTW.......)

P.S. Markeith Ambles from Henry Co. my friend's dad said is a huge headache. Said he never wanted to practice but always obviously play on Friday night. Said he was uncoachable and a big time slacker who skipped classes all the time and this spring was failing two classes including weight training...

very interesting.

not surprising. It seems like everything we have heard about this guy is spot on. Failing weight training= laziness. I think it's fair to say he won't be playing his freshman year at all at USC.

It's easy as hell to get qualified and cleared these days it wouldn't surprise me if he was there in the fall. But he's got some growing up to, major growing up. I have no idea how he'll make it beyond a year at USC if he even does make it there.

I'm sure he will be there. I was more thinking about a redshirt year. I honestly think that a college like USC will only make his problems worse. USC is a real deal school with great players. They can afford to not play him and put up with his shenanigans.
