Nah. Saban has far more self control over his vices than Bear did. Unless Saban retires literally in his 80s I think he'll be around awhile after he's done coaching.

Do you ever get tired of winning when you own stocks?
Do you ever go to the casino, win for a while but decide you are tired of that? Do you ever get tired of being happy?
This is really a dumb question because it is obviously an attempt to belittle something we enjoy, something you don't have. Envy is ugly. Join the fun!

Yes. It's still fun blowing out my more hated teams but I found myself pulling for A&M to score points in the first half of that game as I just felt like watching a closer game. The idea of ever wanting the opponent to score points during the Shula years would have been inconceivable. Also, it's definitely more fun being the underdog going into a big game.

I have an uncle that retired from the Air Force after 30 years of service. The man was “retired” for 3 days and got a civilian job. That being said, even if he retired from coaching, I think he’d be high up in the athletic department the very next day. The only other likely scenario is he dies shortly after coaching like the Bear.

Yeah, my buddy's grandfather is a doctor and refused to retire until he was basically told he was too old to operate anymore. Some people, men in particular, don't know how to function if they aren't going to work everyday. I was worried my father would end up like this, but he lost one of his partners to an unexpected death this past year and it really put perspective on a work/life balance for him. For the first time I can ever remember he's taken more than a week of vacation this year.

The other teams could just get better. There's no magic to what Saban does. It's execution, focus, and discipline. Try doing the basics right instead of trying to cheat the hard work with dipsey-doodle offenses and trickeration schemes.

If it was that easy, Saban wouldn't be as successful as he is

True. People said the same thing about Spurrier in the 90s, though.

If it isnt that easy what is his secret?

Wizard?
Capable of time travel?
Demigod?
Alien from another world who can mind control his opponents?

true, but Spurrier also ran a revolutionary offense for his time. Spurrier also was nowhere near as dominant as Saban has been.

His work ethic, how he prepares and develops players, how to manage a staff, etc. Saban isn't the best football mind on the planet but how he is able to run and manage his program is unmatched and it's not something everyone has the ability to do, clearly

Do you enjoy watching the players you root for do well?

It's pretty awesome.

Yeah. He was walking across the parking lot of the hotel as my friend was leaving and he almost hit him. Imagine the news headlines about an LSU fan hitting Coach Saban with a truck.

Well I understand how he would've been hard to see over the hood.

It's really astonishing how similar coaches Saban and Bryant are in regard to how they run/ran their programs. The insane degree of preparation and planning, along with their work ethics and total control of their programs that both exhibit is uncanny.
