It's a term from the World War II era, when the students at UT tended to be the children of the state's wealthy and political classes, who stayed home from the war to sip tea, while A&M's students were more blue collar in nature and joined the war effort in much higher numbers.

Doesn't really have any meaning anymore as both schools are large well-funded research universities, and the students at both tend to be kids of upper middle class suburbanites like most other schools in the country. It's just one of those things from 70 years ago that stuck.

Gotcha. Makes much more sense

Wrong, other than the US Military Academy aTm has had the most Generals graduate from their school.

Got Dayumit now I am defending an Aggie.

I have defended Baylor, aTm, and Coog High all within this week.

I never understood why Aggies consider sipping tea an insult. I don't drink it, only coffee. But most southerners drink ice tea, and tea is drank in basically every country in the world. Regardless of being a rich or poor nation.

Is there an old saying along the lines of "Longhorns sip tea, and Aggies sip from jars?

The notorious Bama/Auburn insult is Gumps/Bammers and Barners/Cow College. Things that are meant to demean the other.

Can someone explain the sip insult to me?

LSU's situation was bad, Aggy's is worse. This could get really ugly for Sumlin.

I'm here in Houston and the sports station is saying that after the meeting with sumlin, Kyler Murray is moving on. Anybody heard this also??

If this is true then Sumlin really fricked this up. A&M would of at least had Allen if Murray never came in to A&M. Can't blame him too much for wanting Murray at the time because about any team would of been glad to have him. I guess we will never know what Sumlin actually promised Murray but it seems fairly obvious he was guarantee some major playing time.

Okay you missed it....ATM doesnt have a military service obligation like the academies do. People sometimes think ATM is a service academy. Regardless of how many graduates serve, it's not an official pipeline academy.

You know and I know Murray was not going anywhere but aTm. I still think they owe Kevin money from his playing days.

Yeah. I have a cousin who was a lieutenant colonel in the air force. She's a Clemson grad.

Yeah that's probably one of the biggest misconceptions about ATM. They're not a military academy like navy, army and Air Force. The corps of cadets are a frat dressing up.

Title 10, Section 2111, Paragraph a, Sub-paragraph f

Look it up and quit being so ignorant.

Here, I'll even provide a link to help you.

I mean I would assume that he was going to A&M or the MLB but yes, Sumlin wanted Murray too bad and looks like he promised him the world.

The academies commission 100% of their graduates.

By federal law, they are the only schools that can

Is it possible that Sumlin doesn't even make it Spring Practice?

Wow I'm surprised at the ignorance, there's a difference between a service academy which requires military service after graduation and and a military school.

Texas A&M is a Senior Military Institution.

Same classification as VMI, Virginia Tech, The Citadel, Norwich, etc.

Saying TAMU is a SMC isn't the same as saying it's a service academy. In the same vein, an SMC is different from normal collegiate ROTC programs.
