No surprise here. Manziel was overall a very average passer who just had great elusive playmaking ability and the monster known as Mike Evans to catch his poorly thrown balls. Many players are far more accurate than Manziel but couldn't make the scrambling plays that made him famous. JFF's completion percentage is highly inflated by the high number of 10 yard dump passes he threw.

I've always said Manziel's coming out party was against us and not Alabama.

I had forgotten about that game, which is weird because half my family was pissed off afterwards. Lot of nasty comments about being the first real SEC team to lose to TAMU. That is, they weren't high on Arkansas.

higher completion % from the pocket than Luck

Well this settles it. Completion percentage from the pocket is clearly the best indicator of how good of a pure passer a QB is, that's why Manziel is having so much more success in the NFL than Luck these days

He may be a better passer than JFF, but he is only 4"2" tall.

I didn't say he was better, I was saying he was a pretty good passer, underrated even

Aggie will shut this site down if they just win a division title.

Well that's not hard to do, Johnny wasn't that good of a passer. He mostly chunked it up and let Mike Evan's freakish arse bail him out.

That's just not true. He made several throws in tight windows during the '12 Bama game to Kennedy and Swope to stay in the game on crucial downs

Manziel was one those rare type of athletes who got things done.Sometimes it wasn't pretty, but he won games.I'm 58 years old and have watched a lot of college ball in my life and he is one of he best playmakers I've seen.

Like these guys or not,I respect their ability....he sure pissed me off...

I used to watch Kyler at practice when he was playing LFA as a 5-7 yr old kid. His dad would have him doing footwork drills and dropping back at that age. His footwork is remarkable for a HS QB prospect. Kevin taught him well.

high school hype, pre season hype; equals garbage.

I'm normally tempered on high school hype (hell, I don't even really follow recruiting that closely aside from the biggest names), but Kyler is easily one of (if not THE) most prolific passers/winners in Texas HS history, and his father was an Aggie QB as well. Wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be the real deal.

Time will tell, though. Honestly I'm excited to see Kyle Allen in a full year of action, too.

Jeez this revisionist history is incredible

Manziel's security blankets were Swope and Kennedy more than anything (and Travis Labhart in his second year), especially as defenses quickly grew wise to Evans. All this "he just threw it up to Mike Evans" crap is just not even close to true--go back and watch the games.

Hell, even the crazy-arse hail mary everyone remembers in 2013 against Bama wasn't pulled down by Evans. It was Ed Pope.
