There is a risk Kiffin could be a disaster. Why take this unnecessary risk? Especially when we're rebuilding (rebuilding by our standards).

I think it's actually because you're rebuilding. Nuss gets a golden parachute out of town before he could be blamed for anything next season. Hell isn't he making more now? That sets up Kiffin to be the fall guy if rebuilding is rougher than fans expect and Kiffin is so unlikable there's no way Saban would get any heat with Kiffin there -- he'll be the focus of any and all fan ire. And if it works (it's not like Bama is so untalented that can't win with just the talent deficit) then Saban wins there too.

That or Saban got charmed just like every other Kiffin victim and/or Marc Richt has lost control of Saban's sanity.

Of course, Kiffin is so destructive it probably spells doom for Bama. The man really does equal destruction.

Aren't Saban's OC, DC, and assistant barred from media?

As of now, Lane Kiffin's first media opportunity as Alabama offensive coordinator is scheduled for August. Really."

I think it'll work out. I don't think he's some brilliantly awesome OC like many Bama fans on the Coaching Changes Board believe he is, but I don't think he's going to burn the program to the ground like others believe.

Mother of God!! If one couldn't hate Bama enough already.

Good OCs don't always make good coaches but they are still good OCs.

Mark Richt has lost control of Nick Saban.

This will turn out well for one fanbase......or it will be glorious for the rest of college football.

The only destruction Kiffin brought to Knoxville was by leaving. Every honest Vol fan...which would not include you...along with most of the rest of the conference, are quick to point out that Kiffin had things turned around and headed in the right direction. Vol fans believe that, had he stayed, Tennessee would have been kicking arse the last four years.

Recruiting matters: Alabama and USC had top 5 recruiting classes in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Both head coaches are now on the same staff."

My presumption is that Saban only plans to coach 4-5 more years. He likely thinks that Kiffin is the best OC available to maximize his chance at winning another title or two during that period. He is using Kiffin for that purpose only. On the flip, Kiffin is going to the perfect situation, under the perfect tutor, to earn much needed legitimacy to an otherwise underwhelming career since leaving USC. If he plays it right, he will work his way back into a prime HC position within 4 years but will never be the Bama HC.

Since people always want everyone on record on here, I do not think this is a good hire and will flame out in two years. I will eat crow if I am wrong.

Keep on thinking that just like we ignored Al and USC ignored both Al and us. A lot of those 'honest' fans thought Dooley had us on the right track to. 7-6 is Kiffin. Dooley? He'd have been 7-6 his first year too had it not been for the Music City bowl where a wacked out rule that penalized the other team wound up giving them a chance to win and costing us the game -- the NCAA immediately changed it so it couldn't happen again.

Yep, that's the great and wonderful Kiffin. 1 game better than Dooley.

Kiffin did a solid job in Knoxville. The timing of his departure nullified a lot of what he did, but his tenure was far more productive than Dooley's.

Yeah, after all, what the hell do I know? i only live in the middle of Tennessee and have listened to Vol fans for four years constantly talk about how great they'd have been if Kiffin had stayed. Now you want to pretend otherwise. Enjoy your fantasy.
