I lived overseas in the late 80's and 90's. What exactly happened when he was at A&M?

It was a long time ago, but I believe he had a terrible first season. Can't remember if he was fired or resigned. Thinking the latter.

Your signature is dedicated to A&M. Maybe let someone else use that dig next time?

As a sidewalk LSU fan I like it

As an MTSU alum I hate it

He's gonna leave either way though but damn hope he stays for at least a couple more seasons

He got us on NCAA probation. Was not a happy time.

This is how bad it has been for us. Kermit Davis, followed by Tony Barone, followed by Melvin Watkins. It is a wonder we even have a basketball program. And you wonder why we love Billy Gillespie?

You were already on probation in football, too, which meant the death penalty loomed.

You poor schmucks got bailed out, though, when DeLoss Dodds went to Kansas and sweet-talked the NCAA in not giving aggy the death penalty.

I remember when John Brady "rescued" Kermit from basketball purgatory. I never had heard how he ended up there.

Texas A&M`s men`s basketball program was placed on two years` probation Monday by the NCAA Committee on Infractions for major violations under former coach Kermit Davis Jr.

Texas A&M, which was put on probation in 1988 for rules violations, escaped the NCAA`s so-called ``death penalty.``

The Aggies will not be eligible for this season`s NCAA tournament and will be limited to two scholarships for the 1992-93 season and can have only eight instead of the usual 15 expense-paid official visits for the 1992 calendar year.

In addition, the committee accepted the university`s elimination of off-campus recruiting for men`s basketball during this past spring.

The committee said it had authority to impose lesser penalties to avoid the death penalty if it determines a case is ``unique.``

``This case is unique because, after the 1988 case, the university`s president took substantial actions to gain full presidential control over the intercollegiate athletics program,`` the committee said.

University officials contended that Davis and assistant coach Fletcher Cockrell furnished false or misleading information seven times in the course of a school investigation about recruitment of Syracuse transfer Tony Scott and talent scout Rob Johnson. The allegations against A&M included illegal travel and lodging inducements.
