do you think I created an elaborate long con (setting everyone up with the les miles thread months ago), get a few pages into this one, then unleash my long-ago forged master plan of calling ole miss average?

You have had a long day. Maybe it's time for a break.

Fact is that even in his very BEST season, he still had 4 losses He has yet to post a season with less than 4 losses.

This is dumb. Really dumb. In 2013, you're statement would have been the above statement but replaced 4 with 6.

In 2014, your statement would have been the above statement but replaced 6 with 5.

Now, the 5 is replaced with 4.

Your point is retarded until he has a season that is actually worse than a past season.

Freeze has some work to do on his gameday coaching, but what the hell do you expect? He went straight to head coaching and he's incredibly young. He took over a 2-10(TWO frickING WINS) team. Any negative on Freeze is premature and downright dumb AF right now.

quote:

2012: 7-6 with losses to texas (35 points!), bama, a&m, uga, VANDERBILT, and LSu. won the compass bowl in birmingham.
notable wins: arkansas?

Ummm, Vandy was a top 25 team with 9 wins. We lost on last second plays against A&M, Vandy, and lost to LSU because of a botched punt. That's three plays at the end of the game(saying this to point out that Freeze took over a 2-10 team that had less than 50 scholarship players left on roster). We could have been 10-3 a year following 2-10 with no talent left.

quote:

2013: 8-5 with losses to bama, Auburn, a&m, mizzou, and state. beat ga tech in music city.
notable wins: LSU

Year two and beat @Vandy(top 25 team), #6 LSU, @Texas, while losing on a last second play to a&m again. A play away from potentially beating @AU, who went on to the NC game.

Year three and ranked as high as #3. Beat two #1 teams, lost by 3 @LSU, lost on a freak play to AU, and got drummed by Ark and TCU due to injuries and huge morale hit. Attended an NYE6 bowl game. LSU rushed the field.

If you're basing your 6.5/10 off what he has done thus far, you're a fricking idiot...and that's probably putting it extremely lightly.

Want a real discussion? I'd love your breakdown of what Gus has done at Auburn. THREE MORE LOSSES FROM YEAR ONE TO YEAR TWO?!?!?!? YIKESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

You can compare the numbers all you want, but we're still talking about actual losses. He hasn't had a season wiht less than 4 losses, fact. 4 losses is not a good season, is it?

It's been 3 years, not 1. And the thread was asking others how good is he. I never said he sucks and is the worst coach I've ever seen. If 3 years isn't long enough to evaluate a coach, when is? 5 years, 10? Or is it when they finally have a breakthrough season that enough time has passed?

Ummm, Vandy was a top 25 team with 9 wins

they're still vanderbilt football. they shouldn't beat real SEC teams, just like UK basketball shouldnt' ever lose to SC basketball.

We lost on last second plays against A&M, Vandy, and lost to LSU because of a botched punt.

ok? And? Hell if it weren't for the last FSU drive we'd be national champs right?

quote:

We could have been 10-3

yet real life shows that you actually did go 7-6.

quote:

losing on a last second play to a&m again. A play away from potentially beating @AU

most of what you're saying is a hell of a lot of "we almost"s.

quote:

Year three and ranked as high as #3. Beat two #1 teams

I have, in this thread, said that ole miss looked like a CFP contender early on, and were one of the most surprising teams in the country.

quote:

lost by 3 @LSU, lost on a freak play to AU,

more "almost"s

I'll ask again, what is the standard accepted baseline for when we're allowed to evaluate coaches, when you say so? 3 years is ample time.

And in fact, based on what has already been said and the fact he hasn't finished better than 3rd in his division, I think a ranking bordering on 7/10 is pretty generous.

I think considering what he inherited and where he is coaching, he has done a tremendous job.

His on-field coaching (specifically, offensive play calling), must get better. He runs a good program though and anyone with a brain can see that.

You thinking 7.0 is generous is laughable.

Also, you just got onto me about the "coulda, woulda, shoulda" BS and pull that line about Florida State out of your arse

At least Hugh is moving forwards and not backwards. The Gus Bus is in reverse.

Surely you realize the context of my comment right? I purposely made a ridiculous comment like that in direct response to that poster doing the same thing, to show how little merit it has.

I think his comment about our decimating injuries and morale was spot on, albeit an excuse.

If you can't comprehend and understand the context in which I made that statement, perhaps you don't need to just take a break from work, but you need to leave immediately and check into one of those health spas for a week long getaway because your brain is not functioning at a level that would be appropriate for most workplaces.

With the past 3 top 25 classes I say we can judge him starting 2015 and beyond. If the OLine, run game, and QB play suck then yes the fault is in Freeze and his assistants because these are players he recruited and developed from day one. Whether it be from not maturing these positions properly, injuries, or bad talent evaluation, from next year and on we should be prepared so these things don't happen again. Injuries will happen to everyone(maybe not as bad as 2013 GA or 2014 UM) but it is on Freeze and his staff to prepare these top recruits/players for those situations.

This goes for any coach and staff with a tenure or 3-4 or more years at one school.

I get what you are saying and all, but I just wanted to throw this out there:

Vanderbilt vs. Auburn: 21-20-1

Real SEC teams and all.

It's a shame he didn't inherit the luck of the Irish like Gus did.
