I don't get a warm feeling about Cutcliffe at all. I think his best years are behind him, and the rigors of being a SEC head coach aren't a good fit for him at this point in his career.
Belle, I think you are right here.

Yes in terms of something to do now. The bigger question is if the folks in the AD's office have the long term strategy.

Over on KSR, Matt's been told money isn't the issue if the coach is worth it and they can make him one of the highest paid in the game.

Question is will Barnhart and Co. be able to accurately evaluate who is "worth it"?
If money isn't a question then there shouldn't be any issue if we hire a offensive minded HC in finding a DC to go with him. And vice versa.

Hopefully. They aren't just going to throw money around. I think the big money goes to a big name. Not some young unproven guy.

Ahh, No.
Exhibit A - Rich Brooks (worked out OK, but 9-25 in first 3 seasons. Chased Bill Parcells - how stupid was that)
Exhibit B - Billy Clyde Gillispie (Apparently didn't do 5 minutes of background checking)

This is why I don't listen to Matt Jones. UK is not going to spend a ton of money on a football head coach. Never have, never will. He says things just to stir the pot.

In his defense nobody (and I really mean nobody) wanted that job. He didn't really have much choice to hire Brooks. I can hold some things against Barnhart but that certainly isn't one of them.

I'm not a Matt Jones fan either but I have the distinct feeling that Barnhart felt his feet to the fire over Joker. I think he thought the fans would stick it out as we have so many times before instead of flat out not showing up. He knows that he can't fund his Olympic sports without a football program that at the very least keeps fans in the seats.
Mike had some good thoughts about boosters who were wanting to put some money into football but not until this administration showed they were willing to change.
Never is a very long time.

I guess what I was trying to say was Brooks was not even on the list initially, just consulting for it, for what that is worth. He chased a coach for 3 weeks that was never going to come here.
I guess we will wait and see, but I don't have much faith in Barnhart to make this right. If he puts together a committee with Dawson and Van Note, maybe Couch to help, I will feel better. But I haven't heard of him doing this yet.

That's not entirely true. When we hired Brooks, there was another candidate who called expressing interest in the job. He was the then offensive coordinator of the NY Giants who had just had a lot of his play calling duties stripped from him by head coach Jim Fassel. UK declined to talk to him, and he later went on to be a OC under Parcels in Dallas and then the head coach in New Orleans. Yes, Sean Payton actually called back then and inquired about the UK job, and in typical UK fashion, we said we weren't interested.

Yeah but with Sean Payton hindsight is 20/20, thats not anyone's fault. It sucked we passed on him.

So by chased off, you mean that Jerry Jones called him? We can't compete with Jerry Jones $$$$.

I didn't say chased off, I said Barnhart chased him, which I think was ridiculous. Parcells hadn't been in college for over 20 years, and was not going to take the UK job, no way, no how.
For Barnhart to even entertain the option was a complete waste of time.

Adam Himmelsbach @AdamHimmelsbach
Just spoke to Phil Fulmer. Interest in UK job? “That’s really not for me to say at this point. I haven’t had any conversations with anyone.”
Adam Himmelsbach ?@AdamHimmelsbach
More Fulmer on UK job: “They certainly seem very committed from the standpoint of fan loyalty and resources to build a football program.”
Adam Himmelsbach ?@AdamHimmelsbach
Phil Fulmer: “I think being in the [SEC] is nothing but a positive. You don’t have Missouri and Texas A&M running to join it for no reason.”

Please, for the love of God, let this be true.

In this election season, that's some serious campaigning right there....

A lot of chatter of UK reps on campus in Tuscaloosa today meeting with Kirby Smart.

Yep. Heard from my source in the media up there about that.

Far as I'm concerned you make them tell you no. Because you never know who might say yes.
