eh Chavis is a very good dc but he is getting up there in age and he doesn't really go out and recruit. I can live with him leaving and us brining in some fresh blood. I don't want to see him go but no melt if he does.
I don't see him leaving though with only 1 talented player on the A&M d and a physical team made that player tap out.

My thoughts?
1. Foster is delaying because he wants his $800K buyout (due 31 DEC); and wants to help his 27 year career buddy Beamer limp through his last season with the Hokies. Foster is a candidate to take over for Bud (who is undergoing a 3rd neck surgery), but knows he probably won't get it. Foster is holding out. (Has not signed his extension yet)
2. Chavis was contacted, and will probably be thrown stupid money. This gets his name out there on both sides. He could be a legit candidate, or Sumlin could know he's just helping Chavis get more money. (Has he signed that extension yet? $1.3M thru 2015; $400K buyout)
3. Durkin / Mattison Combo - the fallback option.
At least this is what sounds like the best scenario to me. Hey, we Aggies are finally getting some good news - so now I will choose believe it. ;)

Which he would be worth. He has kept a defense made mostly of freshmen and sophomores in the top 15 for two straight years. He can name his price as far as most LSU fans are concerned.

I doubt they get Chavis, but I suspect that Sumlin s is, in fact, trying to make a splash with this hire. Maybe he'll be successful; maybe not.
Sumlin could be biding his time until a pro coach that he likes becomes available.
I DO know this: most Razorback fans were completely underwhelmed when Robb Smith was hired as our DC. We thought we'd get a 'big' name. But instead, Bret did his job and brought in a great coach, regardless of "wow" factor.
And there is little doubt at this point that Robb is an excellent DC.
